| Does smoking affect your sleep pattern?
Hello all! I've moved away from the "Alcohol" forum now that it's been 85 days since my last drink. Anyway, since I quit drinking, I've notice that I'm smoking a lot more. I find myself lighting up every 20 to 30 Minutes...that's a lot for me. Throat seems to be sore almost all the time. But, here's the sleep issue. I'm waking up after sleeping for 5 to 6 hours. I'm almost certain the cravings for nicotine is causing this, since I am now smoking more than I normally did during my drinking days. Can anyone relate to this? I have heard that smoking does in fact affect sleep, but I want to hear from other smokers on this issue. Thanks! Bookie12 |

Hi Bookie; I had sleep problems when I smoked. I had a hard time falling to sleep, sometimes not falling to sleep till 2:00 am in the morning. Then waking up during the night as well. I quit smoking on February 13, 2005, so not quit 3 weeks ago. the first thing I noticed is how I am actually tired at the end of the day now. When I lay down to go to sleep I fall to sleep within 15 minutes, very unusual for me, but I am feeling so rested during the day now. Some one said its because I am getting the oxygen in my blood stream better now. I did quit one habit at a time, but know of many who quit smoking at or around the same time that they quit drugs or alcohol. All the best to you Diana

Congrats Lonlion! Almost a month now. Little do non-smokers know, that is a long time to have quit, considering most of us can or use to smoke a pack or more a day. Heck, one hour is a long time for me! And I'm almost sure that's my problem...smoking much more than I use to and now the brain is craving it so much after falling asleep at night, that I'm waking before I should, to get the nicotine back into my system. Thanks! Bookie12 |
