Got flu can't smoke

Well last week I got a particularly nasty strain of flu it rendered me a smokeless zone it has been been 6 days and though I am tired my chest is really bad so I still haven't smoked woo hoo . I am irritable and keep pining but last time when I gave up for 10 years I reckon it took 3 weeks til I became an approachable person again...I will let you know how it goes ah wish me luck please.

Congratulations on 6 days, Indie! Sorry you've been so sick, though. Blessing in disguise, huh? Me, I'm puffing away even as I write.
Love and hugs,
Eddie

My family have been avoiding me mostly. Well done on 6 days, you'd be nuts to go back now all the nicotine is out of your body, eh?

How you feeling? Is the flu on its way out?

Hi, Indie!

I stopped smoking in a very similar situation. I had a chest cold which turned out to be a blessing. I have not had to smoke for over five years! That was after almost two packs a day for over 30 years with months of grumpy half-hearted attempts intermittently thrown in.

Remember: for those who are addicted to nicotine, there is no such thing as an occasional cigarette. Try "jugging" the money you would have spent on cigarettes and then treating yourself after a month to something you would have considered "beyond the practical" when you were wasting your money on cigarettes.

I am not insinuating that staying stopped is easy. It is the hardest, but one of the best things I ever did for myself.

When the craving comes:

1. Take deep breaths -- feel your lungs recovering from the abuse of smoke.
2. Brush your teeth - the clean feeling of a fresh mouth is such a contrast to the old way we used to feel. You might even want to go and get your teeth cleaned by your dentist as a means of a fresh start.
3. Pray
4. Call a friend who understands and tell her/him what you are feeling.
5. Remember that cravings only last a few minutes --- generally less than ten -- say to yourself "This, too, shall pass!"
6. Commit yourself to one clean day at a time -- ore one clean hour at a time if need be -- don't try to think in forever terms
7. Don't "romance" smoking - I know that by the end it was almost completely a habit and only that. I enjoyed probably one out of every fifty cigarettes I smoked. Think of all the things you have lost because of smoking -- the burns in clothes, on tables, etc.
8. The research has been in on smoking for a long time. Ask yourself "Why -- despite everything you know to be true --- have you chosen to endanger your health and the stability of the lives of those who love you?" Treat yourself like you'd treat someone you love who is trying to do the same thing.
9. Champion your "inner child." Take care of Indie.
10. Get physical --- walk or exercise. Make a conscious decision to choose LIFE!

All the best. You deserve it!

Hello all,
Thanks Roger for the tips.....oh I used to smoke rollups, if I can stop for ten years I can do it again...I still need that kick up the butt (have you noticed everything seems cigarette linked when you are giving up?) well I have had a couple of slips eddie I am so unbearable this time around, having said that it does seem to be getting better and my family can speak to me occasionally LOL.
hugs indigo

PS Eddie I do believe the dance on the other thread might have been the Macarena I have never done it myself!!!

Talking About that dance...

looks like a mixture of the Macarena and the Charleston? or sort of like a tap dance I used to do before I got into recovery and was trying to justify all my actions...[FONT=Book Antiqua][SIZE=2][COLOR=Sienna]

Roger , I just "got" your screen name last night. Duh. I never studied French so that's actually pretty good, I guess.

Indie,
How it goes?

Love and hugs,
Eddie

I managed to go over six hours without smoking today! Of course, I was ASLEEP for a third of it. LOL.

Does that mean "I arrested the cigarette?" (or I quit smoking) Too bad it doesn't rhyme in English. LOL.

Hang in there, honey! You are inspiring me.
Love and hugs,
Eddie (working on my French)

I regret to say I'm just not inclined to quit at all right now. I don't know why. I have patches and gum, but I'm not using either. Sigh...
Love and hugs,
Eddie
