| Day 8, can you believe it? Happy day. Mind you, I'm coughing my guts up. The kids were chuffed to bits, and couldn't quite believe it. I went for lunch to a pub on saturday afternoon with a couple of friends, oh boy did it hit me in the face! I was ok until one of them came out of the toilet smoking and the whole world rushed and shrank till all that existed was her hand and the cigarette. After a bit of staring and almost drooling, I recovered my composure and imagined the state of her lungs. The meal was nice after that and people smoking around me didn't present a threat As an aside: My youngest got bored after eating and absent-mindedly started swinging on his chair. On a polished wooden floor. You can guess what happened - he ended up on his butt on the floor, the chair skidded for about 10 feet, everyone stopped eating and there were little sniggers escaping all round. It made my day. Hooray for the absurdities of the world! Hope you're all doing ok, and thanks for your patience over the last week. I'm not out of the woods by a long chalk, but I think the self-obsession may be coming to an end. You can breathe smokeless sigh of relief. Love and hugs Jane xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx |

Hi Jane Yes, that is the only time I think of smoking now, when someone is smoking right in front of me. I still love the smell of "fresh" smoke. The smell of stale smoke, that smell that lingers in your clothes and hair is awful. I never realised it was so stinky. I hereby apologise to all I got smelly ...... with cigarettes Keep up the good work, it does get easier and easier, one day at a time. much love JC

Hey There are still some guys who go out for a smoke at tea-time and lunchtime. When they come back in they are REEKING! I would also like to apologise for being one of the smelly ones in the past. Now I can put a jumper on in the morning and it still smells nice in the evening. I keep sniffing myself! And yes, it is getting easier. I just went 1.5 hours without thinking about it once! AND I've now saved £45! ( You Americans wouldn't believe the cost of smoking over here!) Hope you're all doing ok Be happy today Jane xxxxxxxx |

Today is day 1 for me and already I feel irritable. My doctor also has me on a strict low fat low sodium diet to boot and I need to loose 50lb. This is going to be the most difficult thing I have ever done!!!! Prayers gratefully accepted.

Hi Junem, Glad you found this place, it's been of great help to me over the last 9 days and I'm sure it will be to you too. And well done for deciding to give up! Day one is tough, there's no getting round it. I tried to look at it as an illness, which gave me the inner knowledge that one day (I promise!) I would feel better. Never mind this one day at a time stuff, take one 5 minutes at a time for today!!!! If I can do this, and my partner can do this, you can. Honestly. Be good to yourself. Do things where you normally can't smoke, like a bubble bath. You'll be ok. Let us know how you go. Love and hugs Jane xxxxx |

I'm praying for you June... !! I agree with Jane as well... the first day is the hardest! I never thought I would put the fag down either... but one day at a time... I did it!!@ It's a very loving thing to do for oneself. I also agree with Jane about treating oneself like their sick. Be very gentle and kind to yourself. Don't get too "HALT".. (Hungry for those veggie snacks.. Angry.. Lonely... or Tired.) This is recovery from a life stealing illness. |
