quit tip

Choose A Healthier Lifestyle

By choosing to quit smoking, you're actually choosing to live a healthier lifestyle, a lifestyle that doesn't revolve around nicotine. This is perhaps dramatically different from the way you've been living. Just remember that you don't have to change everything all at once. Each day you have the potential to make small changes in the way you live. Most big changes happen slowly, over time, and recovery from nicotine dependence is no exception. You're always moving steadily towards better health.

A few years ago, I quit smoking for 3 1/2 months. During that time, I started going to the gym. I felt WONDERFUL!!! (and didn't look half bad either, lol!)
I relapsed with my smoking - stress is my killer there. And in the summer, I stopped going to the gym. I am soooo PO'd at myself!!! Now I gotta start all over. And for some reason, that is harder. :hairout
Although I have said it often, I am hoping to get to the gym today. I really did LOVE the way I felt...so much more energy. And, since I KNOW I will be huffin, maybe I'll be able to stop the puffin too. Anyway, that is my hope and prayer. To get myself back together. Otherwise, my doc will KILL me, LOL!
Hope this helps!
Shalom!

You did it once historyteach so you know that you can do it again. I had help. I went to a chiropractor and he had this electronic stimulator which he zapped you in your ear. It was expensive but worth it. I never smoked again. My quit day is the first day of Spring 2004. It doesn't matter if you fail, fail and fail again as long as you try, try and try again. Good luck to you and God bless!

Ok, can you explain this to me? Your chiropractor zapped you and it made you quit??? Was it an accupunture point? I want to know more!
Congratulations!!!

Irratibility and headaches are part of the symptoms of withdrawal. Nicotine is physically addictive - not just psychologically.
I suggest you might try the patch??? That would stop the physical cravings while you work on the psychological ones and the axiomatic reflexive responses to triggers of smoking.
Wishing you lots of luck!
Shalom!

Hi all ...I have just come out of a 28 day stay rehab for alcohol addiction (alchoholism) and I have been struggling over the last year to quit drinking ..during that time I managed to stay sober (ie not drink at all) for over 3 months and I was able to go for a month a number of times. I am now 28 days sober and don't want or need a drink. I the last year My treatment for alcohol addiction has cost over £20,000 ($30,000)
While I was in rehab we had a medical lecture each week. One of the lectures covered nicotene and some of the facts were astounding.
Nicotene is the most addictive substance none to man ..more addictive than any other known drug(ie ..far more addictve than crack cocaine).
Nicotene addiction kills more people than any other by a huge margin.
I also noted that smoking related illness killed the two best known founders of AA and the twelve step program (Bill and Dr Bob)
The rehab center I attended bans use af all substances (drink , drugs etc) except nicotene because their sucess rate would be virtually nil if they didn't.

I am intending to give up smoking very soon with help from the AA twelve step program ...I expect to find it much harder than giving up drinking!

Joe

hey joe. yes it is very much more difficult. I was always told that u should NEVER try to quit cigs in ur 1st yr of recovery from booze. I was told by my rehab aftercare that 90% of their clients that attempted this started drinking again. Just food for thought. One thing at a time.

Good advice. Take the time you need to get comfortable sober. There is a time and place for everything. I would hate to see you slip in your sobriety by attempting this very difficult road before you have a handle on it.
Why not talk to your sponsor about it?
Good luck, and CONGRATS on your sobriety!!!
Shalom!
