Afraid to Quit???

Hi all,
I really want to be a NON-SMOKER...LOL BUT...to tell you the truth I'm afraid to quit...couple of years ago at AA party a man who had quit told me that when you quit you feel things even more intensely...well, needless to say that convinced me NOT to quit....LOL and write now I have three major situations on my plate...and everytime I've tried to quit the thoughts of drinking seem to come up more....although the obession to drink has been gone for some time now. anyone out there relate? any suggestion? thanks for listening............serenity777

Gee, I really have never heard that one. I know that people can experience emotional rollar coasters when they quit. Perhaps that is what the friend meant?
However, whenever I try to quit smoking, I know I cannot have a few drinks. It lowers my inhibition against smoking...and I'm puffing away again in no time.
If I find anything about this "feeling more intensly" then I will post it.
Shalom!

Hi serenity777 I thought the same but I also thought about it, and came to the conclusion that I was makeing excuses and mayby I should just do and.To my surprise I didnt feel like drinking or useing. Now before when I was useing and tried to quit it was inpossible becouse cigs and useing came hand in hand and made me crave after useing . And after I got clean I quit 3 month after I got clean and sober I didnt have that drug or drink to make me crave that cig.It was so much easyer after not drinking and druging.I think you should just do it . Ive been clean now over a year and I dont even think about them anymore. If you decide to quit keep us imformed how you are doing ok.

hi
ok, im going to try this, because......I Want To!!!...Its a pain in the you know what, It cost way to much money, My kids are begging me to quit, I want to be a good example to them, I'm coughing way to much, I Want to Feel better physically, Every time I turn around someone else in AA is quitting, and number one all time reason......God loves me...im sure he wants me to quit...!
Ok,,, do I sound convincing LOL And ya, it may or may not bring up more feelings but hey if its good for me to quit then there must be a safe way to quit....and God won't let me down.
And fear.........false evidence appearing real or face everything and recover or forget everything and run..................LOL
wish me God's blessings in this one..........byeeeeeee

I'm terrified to quit. I was told no major changes in the first year so I rode that out. Now a friend jokingly told me no major changes in the first ten years. I quit once. For 5 years. Then I got arrested and started right back up. I tried quitting a couple of months ago and I felt like I did when I first came into recovery. I don't ever want to feel like that again. I want to quit but it's never the right time. Doesn't that sound familiar... For me, it really is harder to quit cigarettes than it was to get clean and that was not easy at all.

Serenity,
I quit 2 months ago, this is my 4th try, after smoking for 35 years.
If I can quit, anyone can.

I went for a walk this a.m.
and could not believe how beautiful the Fall air smelled!
I told my husband, boy, it didn't smell like this last year!
He said it smells like this every Fall,
you just couldn't smell it because of your smoking.

I can really say my senses are in an awareness mode! Everything tastes better, (NOT a good thing...LOL) and everything smells wonderful!

You can do this. Buy some red hot fireballs, pop one in your mouth when you get the urge!

Let us know how you're doing!

Hugs, and fresh breath.....

hey mooselips,
I luv hot fire balls, havent had them since i was a kid!!! lol And walks, morning walks, well, havet done that since, hmmmm?
Did you take walks when you smoked? Are you less tired since you quit? You ever see people on tv or in the newspaper who are 80, 90, 100! They look wonderful and are active with volunteer work or something. My mom will be 81 and she takes walks...and here i sit lol My mom and my brother both quit smoking when they were about 40. And my brother is now 53. He said he feels so much better. WEll, Im hoping by posting here everyday I will finally get it!!!!!!!!!

Hi Serenity,
My big problem is I never stay with anything. Start out with good intentions, but then after a while, I just kind of stop .
Trying really hard to stay with the walking. If I'm off work, I try to walk for an hour. On the days I work, I walk 30 to 40 minutes. If you get a headset radio, it goes by really quick.

The only problem is, I WANT to see some weightloss!
But, I think after my metabolism adjusts to not smoking, I'll start losing. I hope so, but at least I'm not gaining anything.
Menopause sucks.
No, I didn't walk hardly at all while smoking.

I'm at the point now, where I don't even think of a cigarette, so it's a good thing. In fact, this morning, I haven't even remembered to change my patch. (on 7 mg. now)

If your mom and brother quit, you have a good support system going for you.
So, try to taper down your smokes, set a date, and buy the patches, (I suggest) and buy some fireballs! Come on, if I can do it, YOU can do it!

hugs......
