Need to stop smoking!

OK...I am new to this part of SR.(Nicotine/Smoking Addiction)
And I figure if I can stop drinking,I can try and stop smoking.
My Dad died in 1995 from lung cancer...and you would think I would have woken up and quit for good! But of course with any addiction,I didnt.

I was diagnosed with OCPD about a year ago.And my lungs arent getting any cleaner!! So,maybe with a little support and help here,I can do this thing!
So...here I am!

Go for it!!!!!!!!!!!

I believe in you.........look at the health benefit.

Have you considered a cessation program?

Take care.

Hugs and sympathies about your dad. I just learned the day before yesterday that my brother has lung cancer. (Go figure, I quit smooking and my day 19 he tells me he's having his lung removed.) He is one of the ones who started me smoking at the silly age of 13.

No matter what method you choose you can do it! But pick a method, get determined and just do it! I did it cold turkey and the first day I took it hour by hour, telling myself I could do it another hour.

Good luck and stay strong!

I pretty much just gave myself permission to do whatever I want that didn't hurt another person that would keep me from smoking. After the first 3 or 4 days I started reining myself in. I ate a ton of cookies, candy, gum, chips, carrots. Drinking water is great too! It not only gives you something to do it helps flush your body. I've gained 5 lbs since I quit but now that I"m getting use to being a non smoker I can stop putting off all the working out I always wanted to do. -)

I was as grumpy and mean as I wanted to be. My family all was awesome about supporting me and just dealing with my moods. (Well husband sucked but the kid and mom negated his attitude.)

One cold turkey help site I found suggested listing all the things you're quitting for and why you hate smoking. It can help to look at that list when you're ready to light up.

I need to quit smoking too.

Hi everyone--I'm new here & really glad I came across these pages. I too need to quit smoking--I started when I was 9 & I am now 34. I've quit before...but always started up again--it's harder to put down the cigs than the drugs & alcohol.

It's really hard not to start up again even almost a month out from quitting. We just survived Hurrican Frances nailing our town and it was the hardest thing not to just light up when it got bad. BUT I did it, with encouragement from my family and a ton of will power. Now I'm to busy cleaning up to light up but boy is the urge still there!

I think smoking is just like any addiction, you have to be ready and find the strength to quit. Then any method you use is just going to reinforce your desire to stop. For me it was cold turkey, others here have had great success with the patch. Mainly you just have to be ready to quit and don't be discouraged if you don't succeed the first try. Just keep trying!

If you go cold turkey there are a ton of information pages at this website I found http://www.whyquit.com/

I don't mean to be negative, but right now is NOT the time to quit smoking, you're too emotional from quitting the other. If I'm wrong I apoligize. That's just what they told me in rehab. Lots of luck!
