| thinking of quitting
Hi guys My name is matt-- i'm an alcoholic. Sober a bit over two years now. Been a heavy smoker for the last --oh--12 years at least. Thinking of trying to give up the smokes now too. Wife is constantly on my case--price has gone way up here in Michigan--know it's bad for me--blah blah blah. But looking for an easier, softer way perhaps of quitting. Tried the patch, gum, & cold turkey before,(not recently) but never made it more than a week. (usually just a couple days...) Any miracle cures out there? LOL. Saw this infomercial on hypnosis...? |

I think statistic wise the best bets are the patch/gum and cold turkey methods of quitting. If you go cold turkey here's a good site to check out http://www.whyquit.com . No matter what method you use, good luck and stay strong! Nene |

Thanks for the response VldNene. Like with my drinking, i have known my smoking to be a problem for quite some time. Just haven't been very motivated to do anything about it--and leery of trying to quit earlier in sobriety--perhaps wisely (sobriety is most important to me), --perhaps using that as an excuse. Am still smoking now, but thinking more and more of setting a quit date sometime in the next month or so. |

Don't do anything to jeapordize your sobriety. I think smoking is pretty much like any addiction, you have to be really ready to quit to make it a success. I think when you get to the point with smoking where you can no longer let any excuses keep you from quitting you'll know it and do it. But do not take any chances with staying sober. I've been really tested through quitting smoking. IRS deal, 2 hurricanes to go through, and other piddly stresses. I think if I hadn't been really ready to quit any of those events would have made me start back up again. When you are ready to quit we're here if you need fellow smokers getting healthy! Nene |
