Sober Vapers Part 2
My daughter has her Dr degree and started looking into this vaping as I knew zip about it.
A package with reading material arrived from my daughter December 20th of 2014 with an Evod Mega kit and RY4 juice 8mg, on the 30th (2014) of that year at noon I had my last cigarette, I haven't craved since, today I have 0 to 2mg.

Well I kind of expected there to be something dangerous in putting a foreign substance into the lungs. I have a lot of different e-liquids and they don't have ingredients listed on them. This will change I hope in the future along with the pre-filled cartomizers.
I do know it is better than inhaling smoke, at least in the short term being able to breath. The long term effects are of concern though.

That doesn't mean however that e-liquid manufacturers should strive for safety and openness.
In other news I bought something! I'm still trying to find the best device for my wife (how's that for an excuse eh? ) and decided that the Evic VTC Mini might be a good candidate. So far it looks good, and I'm amazed at how small it looks and feels compared to the SX Mini. It's also pretty cheap (all things considered) and might make an excellent "beater" mod for garden work etc. I also expected it to feel plasticcy, and was pleasantly surprised with how solid it feels.
I also bought the Cubis tank, mainly because I can't really be bothered with making my own (and my wife's) coils anymore. It's easy to fill (top fill), and so far the SS316 pre-made coils seem to work just fine.
I always thought it was bound to happen that these bought coils would one day equal the quality of self made ones, and all things considered it seems that day has come.

I had one of those in my grubby little mitts, didn't get in my pocket ...yet, I really liked the feel of the battery enclosure. and another top fill tank seems like something I ahem need you know to go with the Crown an d all
Hey everyone, haven't checked in here in a while. Welcome new people, I was just enjoying reading some of your stories. dsm, that's awesome that you got to 0! I'm working on it myself. I'm at 3 mg 75% of the time and have been dabbling in 2 mg probably 25% of the time. Maybe it's just me, a mental block or something....but the juice tastes a little weaker and I find myself slightly more irritable and impulsive after I've vaped 2 mg for several hours. It could just be a mental thing. Anyway, yeah I still love vaping, I've stocked up on the hardware. I've been enjoying juice from a store called Yeti Vape (it's yetivape.com) they're from New York. They do a deal on juice where you can buy 2 bottles and get 1 free everyday. Buying in that amount is kind of expensive at the start, but when I divided the cost out it's about the same as my local shops and they have an RY4 and cereal custard I really like. Vape on everybody!

Thanks Brian I got down to zero I just vaped 0 for a month, but I became a jerk. See I was trying to quit nicotine benzos and alcohol at the same time. Long story short I have schizophrenia and nicotine is proven to help schiz relax. Schizophrenics smoke more and vape more so I choose to stay at zero vape and just chew 4-6 pieces of nicotine gum a day 4mg gum cause thats what I had left over. Gonna focus on tapering of klonopin down to .75 pill from 4. When I vaped I would go threw 30 ml in 2-2.5 days. I use a Vapeston Maganus automizer and a sigelei 150 watt battery mod set at 30 watt. I use to smoke 2.5 - 3 packes of maverick menthol one hundreds a day so I have made a lot of progress. Thing is I love nicotine but smoking and vaping were out of control. I still spend 25$ a week on my liquid and filters. I use Mr e-liquid 50-50 menthol chopped in half with vg and still go threw two 30ml bottles a week. I got to say that I'm excited vape liquid and vaping 95% percent better then tobacco. Anyways I would try to chew nicotine gum instead of smoking and vaping and couldn't do it but now I can chew a piece every 3.5 to 4 hours so I'm happy with my progress.
It's interesting that you prefer vaping 0mg and then get the nic from gum. If you would ask me - but you don't, I know - I would suggest the option of vaping with a totally different setup. Basically, it would come down to a high nicotine/low power/mouth-to-lung system.
Many people praise - even though they feel weird doing so - the JUUL system. It's a "step back" money and choice wise for most vapers, but the high nic level (50mg/ml if I'm not mistaken) works very well to satisfy nic craving with just a few toots. If you were using low nic, your body would make you vape like mad because you never got "enough" nicotine in your blood - it is well established that plasma levels rise much slower with vaping compared to smoking. As nicotine is also removed from your system in 2 hours, you just never got to the level you need for the nic to work/accumulate. I'm guessing that, say, 18mg/ml with a Nautilus Mini or Cubis with the 1.0 ohm coils would work a lot better for you, and you might see your consumption dropped from 15 ml a day to, say, 3 ml a day.
Another option used as tobacco harm reduction is snus (see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snus ) In a way it's amazing that snus is prohibited in the EU (apart from Sweden) as it has the potential to remove harm if for example vaping doesn't work for you.
Not telling you what to do, mind you! Just giving you a few options you could try if the current way doesn't work or stops working.
Best decision I took lately was to go back from 6mg to 9mg. I now vape a lot less. And it makes sense, because this way I'm able to get a decent nic level in a short while, and then put it down for quite a while - sometimes an hour or even 2 hours before I think "I need a vape."
Thank you Chief, I always enjoy reading your perspective. I actually consider you one of my vape mentors still, someone I can turn to for real information- not alot of the hype and hearsay that goes around the local vape communities. I am now with you and DM, I FINALLY got an SX mini M today! The black chrome one, they were selling them cheap to make way for the ML class and the Q class. I'm gonna have a lot of questions for you guys in the coming weeks. This mod seems pretty intricate (actually more so than the DNA 200 to me). Like, the TCR settings I don't get so I don't mess with, but what is this temperature co-efficient that comes up after you set the resistance? I've just left it alone so far. It took me a couple hours to upgrade it to 75 watts! And I've upgraded 2 ipv's in the past lol. The lower nicotine in the juice mixed with nicotine gum is an interesting recommendation. My step-brother actually suggested I do that as well. But then I'd be hooked on the nicotine gum. I actually test marketed SNUS for free money here a couple years ago. So I'm familiar with that product as well. I'll just continue to try cutting through vaping myself and be strict. But the fact is, if I start to lose it, I'll always have some higher nic juice on hand.
Thanks for the kind words. I am trying to do my best to steer clear of hypes and misinformation, but it's starting to be an uphill battle to be honest.
The TCR setting is a later addition, so that - apart from NI200 and Ti1 - you can use all types of wires, like stainless steel, with temperature control, as long as you now the TCR (temperature coefficient or resistance) value. When wire gets heated, the resistance increases. TCR is the value by "how much" the resistance changes. Kanthal doesn't change at all (well, very very little, hence why is almost impossible to use it for temp control as currently implemented), where for example NI200 changes a lot. When the device "knows" the correct TCR, it can calculate the temperature of the coil based on the resistance change.
There are lists floating around with those values, or you can just use steam engine to find out. (Wire wizard | Steam Engine | free vaping calculators)
But as long as you are using NI200 or Ti1, you don't really have to pay much attention to it.
The other addition after locking the resistance is to set the temperature of your environment. I think the default is 25°C, but you can adjust it for the temperature you are in (cold room, or a very hot afternoon etc.). Apart from the TCR, the device needs to know the "base" resting resistance used as a starting point to calculate resistance (and thus temperature) increase. In other words, it is used for fine tuning temp control, but as it has no big impact, you can leave it alone or on the default value.
The DNA200 goes a lot further in all this (and is the more advanced chip/board), but you need to use the software for this kind of fine-tuning. That said, I still don't see a reason to "upgrade" my M-class to a DNA200 as it just works very well for what I want to do with it.
Obviously, feel free to ask away about the M.

Thank you Chief. You guys aren't gonna believe this, but I just bought a second M Class. A shop called Vol Vapor (volvapor.com) is selling them for $65.74 shipped! I'm probably just gonna get rid of my other mods now lol. It messed me up how when using this mod in wattage mode, the voltage reading on the battery bounces. I was afraid I'd messed it up. Fortunately I found a Reddit video of someone asking about the same thing and apparently, the mod is just that precise that takes the exact battery reading in real time. I've found that I cannot take that room temperature setting out of celcius so I will probably just leave that at 25. Good to know stainless steel can be used in temp mode on the mod though, I will expirement with that on my Crown tank. Thank you for the information, vape on everybody!
Well... the FDA ruling has come out, 499 pages.
The short: vaping will virtually disappear in the next 2 years, and the only companies who will be able to sell products are... the big tobacco companies.
Some highlights...
1. You can still produce liquids, but apart from the cost prohibitive lab testing and equally costly approval (PMTA), you will have to test it in EVERY DEVICE ON THE MARKET. Seriously.
2. 0-nic liquids will have to carry the warning "Made from tobacco". Again, seriously...
3. The FDA may not have the resources to handle all applications, so even if you do everything right and pay all the money, your product may still be taken off the market because of that.
Seriously.
More will be said in the coming days, but this is the de facto ban we all feared. Only the inevitable court cases might offer a glimmer of hope.
The EU regulations have also been confirmed, Totally Wicked lost their court case, and in 15 days cross border sales (and in many countries all internet sales) will come to a grinding halt. Next year most products will be banned as well.

I quit for three months then relapsed so I upped my oil to 24mg 70vg. My current mod is the Smok G4 (quad coil) and my trusty iStick 50w. I don't see myself changing it again. I'm very happy with what I have. The high vg is much smoother on my lungs and it doesn't disturb my dog. Since he's my service dog he goes everywhere with me so its important that my clouds don't disturb him.
It was actually my doctor that recommended vaping. Years ago I quit on the patch for three years but not having a hand to mouth substitute really made it hard on me. Also for some reason the lack of nicotine peaks and valleys increased my clinical depression. I can't take chantix because I suffer from Huntington's Disease and it can increase the symptoms.
So happy to see a vaping thread here at SR. I found a new home!
Its amazing how much cheaper it is to vape. Last month I was able buy Dodgers tennis shoes, shirt and buttons (for my Service Dog's leash wrap...it matches his Dodger's leash.)

Hey Vapers
I thought that this was moved or closed as it didn't seem to show on the list of threads, glad to see it's still active.
Bummer the new bump is on the FDA report/finding.
The science and not just the hype tell the real story of vaping and it's sad to watch the overseers and watchers are so heck bent on protecting 'us'. One long shot glimmer of hope may come from an unseen , unpredictable election cycle here in the States. A guy who claims to want to crack down on regulators and the effects of the financial support and lobbying on behalf of the "Big"s (eg Pharma, Tobacco), his seemingly growing support may signal a shift in culture and a possibility of a more rational approach , or I'm grasping at straws.
Either way I'm going to have to learn some DIY juice skills and stock up, got what two years ? Hmmm maybe a Guy Fawkes vaping tat?

First rule about vape club...
But yeah, it's a bit of a mess. Just watched a video by a couple of German reviewers who will remove 95% of their videos (one guy made 400) in the next 2 days because they no longer comply with the TPD laws in Germany. They will still make new videos, but will have to buy (and be able to prove) the devices, no links to manufacturers or resellers... then again after next Friday hardly any new devices will come out, and those who do will have a 6 months waiting period and need to be approved first, so not many new vids to make anyway.
Only thing left in the US is law suits - first one has already been filed.

Just started reading some of the literature from the FDA and it is almost laughable the extent to which the ruling(s) are so transparently devised to benefit Big T, as if they wrote them.
Practically (not practically in the sarcastic sense) anything Not a commercially available, prior to Feb 15 07, cigalike cartomizer device falls into the newly deemed category. And yet liquid nicotine derived from leaf tobacco is not 'at this time' going to fall under the new marketability strictures.
Minimum age purchasing and labeling guidelines are things everyone would deem reasonable and necessary, but everything else is nothing more than crony capitalism run amok.

I agree on the chrony capitalism idea. I feel like this is at the root of the local and federal regulations we face. I read mainstream news reports recently that said Americans are seeing the largest smoking decline they have seen in decades right now. Didn't realize too big to fail might apply to tobacco and pharmaceuticals as well but ah well. Yeah, I was one of those that while I made phonecalls and signed petitions I believed this would never happen. So anyway, we have what a couple months to buy new products, a couple years to buy what's already on the market, then it all goes right? I actually just won an SX Mini Q class in an online contest. I had already bought one the night before, so I gave the extra to my best friend. Best mod I own, if it's the last mod I get ill end vaping a happy man. At least I can say whatever happens, I have no intention of going back to smoking and for that, I and many others are blessed.
Pretty much that: US is OK for 2 years and 2 months, then it just stops. There will be no new products after August 8, in 2 years China will probably move on as US, EU, Aus, countries like Singapore, Maleysia, et... will all be too difficult (read: illegal) to sell to, 99% of devices and juices will disappear from the market - just as the FDA predicted.
Funny world sometimes.

I'm so tired of big brother on issues like vaping and this coming from a liberal Dem!
