Weight gain

Is weight gain an inevitable outcome of giving up nicotine?

My sense of smell, taste and appetite have gone through the roof.

Half a Kg gained in 8 days.

Really loving food at the moment...

The weight gain / appetite only lasted a week for me. But I took steps to eat less when I realised I'd gained a couple of kg! Not sure if the appetite was still there or not though. But feel fine now.

Lol. I remember being blown away by how fragrant the world was when I first quit. And how easy it was to tell when someone had smoked in the last few hours.

Weight gain isn't inevitable, but it sure is likely. For the obvious reasons (things taste better, food subs in for cigs in oral fixation, chocolate cures a bad mood, etc), but also because smoking artificially raised your metabolism by about 10%.
I imagine the reasons for this 10% increase are nuanced, but I know that part of it is because nicotine is a stimulant, and part is that and smoking speeds up bowel transit time, leaving less time for digestion.

If you think you can focus on food and quitting at the same time, cut your normal calories by 10% and get a little more exercise. The extra exercise is necessary because, if you were a heavy smoker, you probably got out of your chair and walked around smoking for 5 minutes out of every hour. You need to replace that pacing time with walking to keep your weight the same.

Or, like a lot of people, you could indulge your newly improved senses for a while and worry about the weight after being a non-smoker is normal to you.

Good luck! Have a piece of lemon cake for me.

Lol...

Muddy Mud Cake & a Mocha latte for the S**T mood I am in today.

I'm gonna worry about the weight gain later.

One thing at a time.

Thanks for the feedback.

Peace x

Sounds drool-worthy.

And like a very good plan.

I've known a few people who quit without gaining weight, but I definitely relied heavily on chocolate cake and tiramisu.

This is one of the things keeping me from trying to quit, I gained 15 lbs in treatment and am now trying to get in shape, quitting smoking will definitely hurt my progress, probably why I haven't really considered trying it yet, I've quit a few times in the past but of course I always went back. Although I did buy an ecig today
