| You have got to be kidding me!!!!!!
I have been busy thinking up the excuses of why I am not quitting for my New Years resolution but I used them all up when I made up the excuses for why I didn't quit on my 40th b-day. IT'S TOO MUCH PRESSURE!!!!!!!!!!!

I am posting on Steph'e thread, because I am a closet quitter LOL, and don't want anyone to see me. (Hope you don't mind Steph). I have been a closet smoker for far too long, well not totally closet, but my husband is a quitter himself, for about 10 years, and I don't smoke around him or in the house when he's not home. Now you'd think I could just quit, since some days I only have a few (3 or 4) cigarettes, but the minute he travels on business out come my cigarettes. And I didn't exactly make a decision to quit, I just went about 3 days without any because he was around and we were busy doing Christmas stuff, and decided to just keep going. I made it about 10 days, and then fell back into the habit, trying to limit the number of cigarettes, but am making a decision to quit completely New Years Eve. I'm going cold turkey because being a sporadic smoker I think the patch or gum aren't going tp help much. Anyway, I am glad this forum is here so I can share my misery and get support from everyone who is doing this too. I've got my carrot sticks almost ready and am determined not to gain more than a few pounds. And Steph, to tie in to what you said, I have been finding excuses for about 10 years and what is really pushing me is that cigarettes here are now almost $8 a pack. How dumb am I to pay that? Hugs Ann

Gee, send me some bucks and I'll run over the border and get you 4 cartons for that price!... now that's not being supportive is it? Sorry! I hope I'll eventually get where you want to go, in all seriousness I wish you mucho good luck on this endevour! |

| *snicker* found you Ann!
Ann, I can't wait to read about your progress. I haven't set a target date yet...I think I'm afraid to make it New Year's Eve/Day since it's a 4 day weekend for me, I'll be home all weekend w/the kids and seeing my A on Sunday...he's also a smoker but going to start his cessation mid-January. I love carrot sticks and dip...but my teeth aren't ready for for the hard texture. I really hate to turn to the nicotine lozenge because I think it'll have the same effect as the gum (on my teeth and gums and I'm in NO mood to pay the cost of more gum surgeries...I know, shut-up about the gum surgeries already!), however, I read that one shouldn't try cold turkey and then turn to the nicotine aids so for once, I thought I'd try following instructions. I dunno...I'm just pleased this forum has opened and by the minute, I'm gaining more resolve (I'm gonna hate when I get busy at work and can't surf here as much!). Good luck All. |

Stopping smoking is my N Y Resolution, too. For anyone who thinks smoking won't harm YOU - I was diagnosed with emphysema, asthma and heart disease six years ago, during a period of 3 years off the smokes. The insanity is - I started again 8 months ago, and have been trying to stop again ever since. Good to see this forum here, maybe I can do it with some support. Having been a nurse for 23 years, I KNOW the health hazards associated with smoking only too well, and I pray that I can stop again, AND stay stopped his time. |

Hey All- I've been planning for a few months to quit during christmas break right after I finished methadone for a heroin addiction. I took my last 5mg dose of methadone yesterday!! Go me! Now I'm gonna quit smoking as soon as the methadone withdrawels subside in a week or so! I've only been smoking for 4 years (17 to 21 years old), and I'm young, so I better quit now before it affects my health. I'm smoking about 2 packs a day (I know- terrible!!) So I'm planning on using the patches as directed...I think the steps take three months in all. But, it seems these steps to take care of the psychological addiction and then slowly deal with the physical work for me (like methadone). Good luck everyone! I'll root for you all if you root for me! Take Care |

Wow, I remember this thread. Sheesh, I've been sick and when I wasn't sleeping it off, I'm smoking. What is that about? How can I be coughing uncontrollably from whatever I have and smoke a cigarette right after???? It's insanity I tell ya. Ann, good luck!! I'll be rooting for you big time. I guess me even being in this forum is a good thing. I quit once for 6 1/2 yrs and then I met my husband who smokes a lot and I just couldn't smell it all the time w/out having one. I don't smoke infront of my kids, ever so really I don't smoke much during the day. But I make up for it at night. I'm going to think about quitting
