Ready to quit???

Hey all! I was on this forum awhile ago saying I was ready to quit... Well, that lasted only a week. I feel like I am finally ready to quit! I have become such a hypochondriac and I know that it's mainly due to smoking. I used to smoke and would have some symptoms, but lately I've been having some symptoms that really make me worry. Not enough to see a doc (although I do have a general appointment next month for a check up) but just things like having a little harder time breathing and my heart skipping beats every now and then... things like that. I know that when my dad used to smoke he had some weird heart rhythms and when he quit they completely went away. I want that so much!! Anyway...just curious if any of you have (or had) any health issues because of smoking... even just small inconvenient things. (I'm curious how quickly the body improves!) Also, any tips on how you stay quit would be great!

I'm ready....again to toss them out. Let me know if you want a partner in the journey for the next couple of weeks. I've been cutting down for the last while and threw them out again today.

gforecoveringca... can you fill us in on some things you've noticed about your health improving since you've quit? That seems to be the biggest motivator for me!

I picked up some Nicotine gum and lozenges to hopefully help me through the tough times, this morning was hard but got through it. I've quit before but it didn't stick, hopefully this time it can be for good. I have been working on cutting down my intake for the last couple of weeks. I already feel better just doing that but now that I have 6 months with no drinking under my belt I think I'm strong enough to give it another go.

Good for you bikeguy!! Today was miserable for me; I'm not gonna lie, but I made it! I've also tried to quit many times and it didn't stick with me either. I'm so scared of something awful happening to me though, that this time I'm determined. I'm doing it cold turkey, although I'm already doubting my plan. Keep me updated!

I've fighting a raging headache and I'm pretty sure it's because of nicotine withdrawal. I did not smoke nor did I use any gum or lozenges today. I think I'm just going to go crawl in bed and hope my head feels better soon.

Hang in there every time I've quit before the first 4 days were the worst for me.

hey all, I'm with ya's! put on a patch tonight. A couple of months ago I went about 3 weeks and to be honest have no clue why I started again, hoping for longer results this time!!!
slightly panicked but going to try it out anyway

(plus got crazy insane dreams using the patch before, not sure if that's a bonus or a downfall )

good luck all!
Krista

Hey Krista!! Good luck!! Hopefully we can all do this together. I've heard a lot of people say they've had some funky dreams while on the patch. That's one reason I've steered clear of them, I guess. That and the fact that they give me a rash.

Well, day 2 for me and still smoke-free. I felt pretty dizzy all of yesterday and this morning still. Sad that it's because my body's not used to so much oxygen!! I'm finding it hard to get used to doing my daily activities without a "reward". Usually I would do the dishes, have a cigarette, do the laundry, have a cigarette, cook supper, have a cigarette... Well, you get the idea. That's probably the biggest problem for me right now. I feel like I'm always missing something.

Anyway, I hope you all are doing well!!
Oh! And gforrecoveringca-- thank you so much for sharing that about the breathing thing!! I have to admit, that's one of the things that bothers me the most right now. Glad to hear it fixes itself over time! I know exactly what you mean about the tight throat thing.

thanks Saphira, hopefully this time! I've tried/failed before, praying this time is the one.....

gforecoveringsca - I'm SO looking forward to buying the smelly candles and fresheners and actually being able to smell them lol. saving money part would be helpful too.......

Bikeguy - do the gum and lozenges actually work? never tried them.......curious.

I haven't smoked at home for my kids sake for quite sometime but at work is where I have my issues. I use them as a reward, a reason to get away from my desk and as stress relief. I find my most difficult time is that first hour of the day, I guess a smoke was my way to get fired up to go to work. I usually arrive early to work but think I will try coming in "on time" rather than early it might help get me over that first craving. Stupid dang smokes I at one point gave them up for 2 years, WHY did I pick them up again!

@Krista

I have found the gum and lozenges to be very helpful, I try to use them only in the case where I think I might fail (light up). I also bought the ones with the lowest amount of nicotine available as I would like to use them only as a tool to get me past a rough spot instead of a replacement. I chew the gum or suck on the lozenges just long enough to get me past the temptation then get rid of them.

Hello everyone,

I had my last cigarette at 11am today so it's been a little over 12 hours for me. I'm doing this cold turkey....I'm going nuts but I need to stop.......I smoke for everything....wake up, smoke, take shower, smoke, get dressed, smoke....It's ridiculous already and it's killing me. Good luck to all who are quitting.

I'm glad you all are doing well!! Today is the end of day 3 and it's been really hard. Things have been a bit stressful lately and I don't have my little "buddy" to help me through. I made it through the day though, although not without seriously considering just giving up. I still can't get over how these stupid little sticks have such control over me-- it really is ridiculous! Hope you all are having a good night!!

Going to "get away" for the weekend and hopefully that will help keep my mind off the smokes. I figure if I put myself into a weekend situation where smoking isn't an option no matter what I won't have to fight it as much. Hope everyone has a great smoke & drink free weekend!
