Question Changing behaviors

Since I stopped smoking, I stopped getting to the meeting as early. I often went and smoked with everyone before the meeting and after for that matter.

What are you doing different to stop your impulses ??

Geez Cap, seems like everything was an impulse to me. People, places, and things if ya know what I mean. I was a tobacco chewer, so I had to change what I impulsively reached for. I filled my desk drawer and pantry with gum, sunflower seeds, toothpicks, etc. Anything to relieve the oral fixation. Over time the cravings got much, much easier. I still instinctively reach for my can of Copenhagen every so often, and then I have that "a-ha" moment of "I haven't put that crap in my mouth for years!"

I cut way down on coffee. Cigarette's and coffee went hand in hand for me, so it was too much of a trigger that I went from about 10 cups a day to one a week. I had a cup today and it was the first for about 3 weeks.

It's a good idea Captain to change your routine, I changed from going online with a coffee and cigarette first thing in the morning, to taking the dog for a walk.

Started going to nicotine anonymous meetings! They are really great it's also awesome to meet "double winners" at those meetings, really opens up fellowship with non smokers. Check out nicotine anonymous online Nicotine Anonymous - A 12 Step Program offering support to those who want to stop all forms of tobacco and nicotine addiction. Formerly smokers anonymous.

I was sitting there at a recovery center last night sharing. It had occurred to me, stopping smoking and picking up again is the same for me as it would be to drink. I've had a few years of not smoking since, I stopped drinking. But, when I start smoking after npt smoking, I'm right up to the amount I was smoking when, I stopped .

It seems to get harder each effort I've made to stop smoking the last few times. The insane part of this, I don't mind smoking even though I know, it's not good for me. It all came down to economics for me. It's getting to the point, you can make a car payment monthly for not smoking. How sick a habit is that?

I have to view "having a smoke" the same as "taking a drink", which means I just do not pick up no matter what.
I feel its life or death for me, just like drinking, just like pills, I have to work a daily program on ciggs as well.

Ohh and I have not been able to go to meetings early lately because I still do not know what to do with myself before the meetings, cuz all I used to do was smoke. But it is slowly getting easier. Trying to hang with the non-smokers!!

25 DAYS NICOTINE FREE!!!!!

I finally got to the point where, I can stand out side with the smokers before and after the meetings.

It gets cold this winter, they're on their own. I hate the cold

You'll find out the non smokers won't be standing outside in nasty weather

Grats on the smoke free time

I found that every time I started smoking again I smoked more................and yes it is sick, the amount of money spent on smoking is insane.
