| "easy way" to quit.
I am ten pages from finishing this book and am actually looking forward to tomorrow morning & having no cigarettes in the house. No dread, no fears, I want to quit killing myself. I look forward to the withdrawal pangs as the book explains it is the poison leaving my body. I have been a two pack a day smoker for over 25 years, this is the first time I have even tried quitting in the past twenty years. Wish me luck! edited to delete link Last edited by greeteachday; 09-09-2009 at 09:26 PM. |

I'm at 36 hours right now, aiming for the 72 hour mark. I keep reaching over to the table where I used to keep the smokes only to grab air. I had one serious thought yesterday about getting some smokes but it only lasted about a minute. I'm lucky because 1) I live alone (no other smokers) 2) I work from home. (no other smokers around) I am already a non-smoker in my mind. I look forward to the withdrawal symptoms ending but it is just the poison leaving my body. I went to a convenience store yesterday and as I was paying I saw all the cigarettes lined up behind the clerk. I said to myself- I need a pack of those like I need a box of tampons. |

Still a non-smoker! I am no longer reaching for phantom cigarettes out of habit. I enjoy my morning coffee without a cigarette, the withdrawal pangs are mostly gone & they weren't too difficult to deal with. To be honest I expected a little more of a problem quitting than I had. All these smokers throughout my life telling me how hard it is to quit, how terrible it was to go through, how it is harder to quit than heroin. I even had one idiot (heavy smoker) say- what are you going to do, stay home crying in a fetal position until you cave in? (Oh, he was just diagnosed with emphysema and still won't quit) In my original post I linked to the book which is copyrighted. I was under the impression it was "free" but it is not. The book is by Allen Carr, it is called "The easy way to quit smoking". I highly recommend it- it really did make my transition from a smoker to a non-smoker pleasant & I believe permanent. The only thing is you have to WANT TO QUIT. If you go into it half hearted you will fail. Here's a link to amazon & the book- Amazon.com: The Easy Way to Stop Smoking: Join the Millions Who Have Become Non-Smokers Using Allen Carr's Easyway Method (0749725586160): Allen Carr: Books |

I tried once before I gave up drinking which OF COURSE had no chance of working. I tried once after I had quit drinking, it didn't work. I also tried "electric cigarettes" which did nothing to get rid of my nocotine addiction. I read the book, felt committed to quitting & now I am eleven days of being free from the cigarettes. Yes, I feel it was the book that helped. | |
