here i go again..could use support ahh hah

ok so i posted here like 6 months ago about quitting. eff my life. what a fail lol BUTTT i'm actually going to post on here for support because all of my friends either a) smoke still and don't want to quit or hear anything about me quitting or b) don't understand how difficult it is at all, and frankly, it's embarrassing to talk about!! i'm on day 3 and i honestly feel like cutting of my pinky toes for a cigarette, and i can't stop creating excuses to smoke again! it's insane! i seem to remember wanting to quit, and every time i smoke i feel guilty and stupid, i've been smoking for 3 years and i'm just getting frusterated.

i could really just use support from people who know what i'm going through. I'm soooo miserable: horrible headaches, i cant sleep at all at night & during the day i fall asleep, i'm biting my nails and anxious, i'm even tingling all over ugh so bad and I'm also extremely scared of gaining any post-smoking weight, in fact, that's been my biggest reason to continue smoking over the past year and a half and i'm not even fat..It's just that I work soooo hard to stay in shape and I know gaining weight is common when you quit smoking.

thanks for hearing me out and im sooo thankful to have access to this forum.

Rach, I'd recommend posting on the Daily Check-In here and checking out all the stickies on this forum for hints & tips on cessation. A lot of us have successfully kept up the quit, I'm one of those nasty chewing tobacco people that finally gave it up after 27 years.

Hi Im Sharon, not a smoker but an alcoholic...

Not that I didnt try to smoke cause i did, how-
ever i never learned how to inhale. And if
i did id get so nausas and turn green. lol

Alcohol was enough to handle in itself.

Anyway.....just smoking 3 yrs is by far
better than 20 yrs right? It could be
worse.

Id think id like to stop smoking at the
time u have then a whole life time.

Just think with out smoking u will be
in better health. Ur lungs will be clear.

Withdrawals will be rough the same as
it is with alcohol or drugs. But in time
ur chemical balance in ur system will
level out.

Eat health, exercise, got on a motorcycle
and feel the fresh air in ur face....lol like
me...

So many people would anything to have
quit at an earlier age or time like u. So
u have a great head start.

Support for smoking is very helpful just
as it is for me as an alcoholic.

I listen to many share their experiences
strengths and hopes of what it was like
before during and after alcohol. Then i
share my own to help me stay sober one
more day.

Share ur own ESH with those trying to quit
smoking can also benifit ur own recovery.

U can do it.

(((Rachel)))

I used the patches and they helped me a lot, however by the time I got to step 3, I didn't even need them. I really, really wanted to quit, though. I was just sick of throwing my money away on cigarettes, tired of smelling like a cigarette, tired of the whole business of smoking - having to go outside wherever I was, not being allowed to smoke inside anywhere.

If it makes you feel any better, I just recently passed my 4 month anniversary and I have gained 5 pounds, but that's more because it's the wrong time of the month than because of the not smoking. I now Trish used the dum-dum lollipops to suck on, some people get the twizzler licorice sticks to chew on. I knew a guy, years ago, that just kept peppermint candies on him and he would pop on of those in his mouth instead of something more fattening.

I also knew a friend that initially gained about 10 pounds, but lost it again before a month was up. She started walking and it not only helped with the weight, but helped with the stress too.

You can do it, hon. I won't say it's easy at first. The first time I tried to do it cold turkey, I wasn't really 100% into it, I just wnated to save the money, but I resented having to quit. I ate everything that wasn't nailed down and I didn't make it 2 weeks.

THIS time, I wanted to quit with all my heart. I didn't resent having to quit..as a matter of fact, I looked at it as a gift to myself. I even bought myself a blackberry phone after 3 months to celebrate.

You CAN do it, it just means deciding that this is something you want to do, a gift that you are giving yourself and the people who love you. I promise..it won't be long at all and you'll be amazed..you'll have a hard time remembeing that you used to smoke...I do.

It's great to see you here, and I hope you keep checking in!

Hugs and prayers!

Amy

Hi ya... i'm on day 3 ..... and the weekend is here! Which means.... umm ... even more testing! lets just say!

It hurts to type on the keyboard because I have bit down my nails so much AND hang nails that they look absolutely disgusting! I can't even get fakes put on unless I want to be in total and complete agony!

Anywho... I'm worried about gaining weight too! I had a nice big fat ice cream sundae yesterday!

So - what I'm saying is that I understand what you are going through.

OH... and I was WIDE awake for hours last night .... and I just get a smell of a mocha or a sip of one and immediately it triggers me.

I'm new to this part of the forum. The daily check in has helped thus far. A website was just posted - and it really helped.

Also Alan Carr - he is pretty good too! Youtube his name for videos.

Everyday it just keeps getting easier.... and I do not want to start all over again..... because this SUCKS!

I LOVED smoking, absolutely enjoyed every cigarette and thought I would never be rid of them. Then in October 2004 I tried the nicotine gum and have never touched a cigarette since. And yes I gained a little weight but you know what? It all came off because I felt great after quitting so I was able to walk miles without getting wheezes.

Good luck, you CAN do it xx

You're going to notice a huge difference in everything. You'll feel a lot better, you'll smell wonderful again.
Your friends are going to be envious of you. They can't quit right now, but you can!
Go girl!
