I actually used a friend from here at SR as my inspiration, and I know he wouldn't mind if I said who it was.

SpeedyJason came here to deal with his own addiction at the age of 17. While here, his father OD'd and died on heroin. His mom had left, with his little sister, Kirby, years before. When his dad died, Jason was suddenly reunited and moved to another state with his mom and Kirby. Things did NOT go well, "mom" is severely lacking in parental skills, to say the least, and Jason and Kirby are in foster care.

If Jay (Jason) can go through all of this, and stay clean, by God, I can not smoke a cigarette. Every time I thought about lighting one up, I just thought of him and Kirby, and that urge went away, so I told Jay that he and Kirby were to thank for my not smoking

Hugs and prayers!

Amy

You CAN make it last if you want to. Read some of the inspiring stories in this thread. Amy's friend for starters!! If they can do it then so can you. Just believe that you can and you will.

Stay positive and keep posting on here. It was a big help to me in the beginning and still is.

I am nearly 4 months smoke free. I feel great, I smell nice and I have just been to the gym for my induction and my first work out. I was on the treadmill till the sweat was pouring off me!! No shortness of breath and no chest pains.....two things that would have been a cert to happen if I still smoked.

NO WAIT A MINUTE!! When I still smoked I couldn't even muster up the enthusiasm to join the gym!!

You can do it.......keep believing!!

A couple of inspirational quotes that I found helpful:-

Our greatest weakness lies in giving up.
The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.

Red face

Didn't smoke today. Starting the clock over. I feel good today without it and still got alot out of not smoking for five months. Enough to where I'm not smoking today because it is a better life style. I hate to make excuses but man it was so hot here in Portland. My body was streesed at 107 degrees and I got a hold of three two cigs to help. Wasn't a cold beer.

Congrats to everyone on their quit...
Day 24 here...thats almost 500 cigarettes not smoked ! And...almost $200 saved. Honestly...still struggling. I'm working out and that helps. I ordered Alan Carr's Book on Amazon last night. Looking forward to reading it.

Keep going everyone !!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure this book will help you and you'll find it really interesting. He exposes the truth about nicotine addiction and government intervention.

Once you see the truth there's no denying it. The tricky bit is staying in the right frame of mind for the rest of your life. You need to be motivated to stay positive and enthusiastic about staying stopped. That in itself can be difficult but it's a necessity for me.

You're working out and intend to read the book which are all positive steps. You're also posting on here which is another good thing to do as you'll find positivity here on a daily basis.

Good Luck and let us know what you think of the book.

Hi guys!
I am on Day 17. WooHoo!
I have a question.
Did anyone else have issues with constipation?
I am not sure if it is the quitting cigarettes or taking Wellbutrin.
Either way, it is making me feel yucky
Any advice?

Yes I did and so did my DIL. It only lasted a few weeks though. A small price to pay IMO.

Well Done on 17 days.

Stick in there!!

Make sure to talk to you prescribing doctor about this. Sometimes smoking can mask hidden symptoms that are important for our doctor to to be aware of. Congrats on day 17! Keep up the good work!

Day 41 for me.

Congratulations on 17 days TTOSBT. I didn't have that problem myself. My husband said he didn't either. He's been smoke free for over a 100 days. Everyone is different I guess. The biggest thing for me was irritability and problems concentrating.

Well Done to you scardykat on 41 days.....great stuff!

I have stopped smoking more than a few times but this is the first I've experienced constipation......wasn't too bad though.

Irritability is the big problem., so its trying to keep calm, focused and busy I think that helps.

My big problem at the moment is being unable to stop eating even when I'm full. I was doing well for a while but its all went to pot again.

I'll start a strict programme on Monday!!

Keep up the quit!!

Sorry I haven't been keeping up with this thread, but hopefully me checking in with my umm ?? days will help some newbies?

Ummm, I don't know how many days I have been quit though, and the only reason for that is that I just don't care anymore.

Just don't take a puff and you won't care either

Sax

(ok it's nearly 4 months) but who is counting

Oh I know this isnt the whining thread.
I still havent smoked. I wanted to.
It has taken me over a month to get the will to quit again. I should never have picked that 1st one back up afer quitting for 2 mos.
I should have as much time as Amy.
Great job all.
I am staying commited this time. I am so tired of paying for them. And tired of feeling ill and dirty and smelly.

Have a smoke free day yall.

Made it to day 25.
So glad I'm doing this.
Yes, its hard sometimes.
Yes, today I wanted to scream a few times (in fact, I think I might have) but I didn't smoke. And I'm proud of myself. And I'm not going to smoke tomorrow either.
I watched this video on youtube and it brought tears to my eyes. Its called 'thanks tobacco you killed my mom" Its a tear-jerker but it sure drives home the message.
I don't want my son to go thru what this son went thru.
And so I'm not going to smoke.
Nope.
Not even one.

((Trish)) - I'm sorry you're struggling, sweetie, but you sure made me glad I haven't gone back to smoking! You can do it..I have faith in ya!

According to my quit meter thingie it says 3 months and 4 weeks, so that sounds like 4 months to me, but I consider the 4th as 4 months...whatever.

Oh, and I'm not holding my breath, but my 16-year-old niece says she is quitting smoking the end of this month...I sure hope so. She was bragging about me quitting to her best friend, and is more impressed that I haven't gained a ton of weight, which is her main concern. I think she's also tired of never having any money because it all goes toward the smokes.

Congrats to everyone who didn't smoke today, and isn't going to smoke tomorrow!

Hugs and prayers!

Amy

4. Shame has been replaced with pride.
5. No more panic when I'm low on cigs.
6. My breath doesn't stink.
7. My hair doesn't stink.
8. My complexion has improved.
9. No dirty ashtrays.
10. I'm setting a good example for my son.
11. My sense of smell is better.
12. My clothes don't stink.
13. My car doesn't stink.
14. I'm not a slave anymore.
15. I'm not a social outcast
16. It must be having a positive impact on my high blood pressure.
17. I feel stronger.
18. I feel prettier.
19. I can breath better.
20. Food tastes better.
21. I feel a real sense of accomplishment.
22. My teeth are becoming whiter.
23. I'm saving alot of money.
24. I've given myself a priceless gift.
25. I don't feel like a big 'sucker' for the tobacco industry.
