You've definitely inspired me. I had back surgery for a ruptured disk about 12 years ago. I've been VERY fortunate not to have any real problems with it since...except...when I wake up in the morning lately I move like Tim Conway used to do on the Carol Burnett show...you know...the shuffle. Its pretty sad to see me go outside to get the newspaper in the morning.. All of this and I'm only 44 years old ! ha !! I know without a doubt that if I just got my core back into shape that my back issues would cure themselves. Thanks for the inspiration and encouragement. I've just about made it thru day 5...so things are defintely going well. ![]() Big hugs.

Here's to day 6!!! I've had the ruptured disc, just not the surgery, so I understand the "shuffle", LOL. I was talking to a customer at work last night (I wait tables) about quitting smoking and he and his wife were congratulating me. Turns out he has something to do with some kind of coalition in FL against tobacco? He told me, but I didn't quite catch what he said. Anyway, he asked for my e-mail address..he is going to send me occasional e-mails to encourage me to "stay quit" as he says that is the key..too many people will quit, but a few years down the road pick it back up. I normally do not give out my e-mail address to anyone, but for some reason after talking to him he felt legit so I did, as we were having an entire conversation on quitting smoking and he obviously knew what he was talking about. I thought it was pretty cool that a stranger wanted to help me stay quit. He also had some pretty interesting statistics, that if I wasn't so tired I might have remembered I haven't had much problem with the weight gain but I think it's because the meds I'm on for migraines cause lack of appetite. When I tried to quit before, I ate everything that wasn't nailed down, so I understand. Hugs and prayers! Amy

Hello Everyone. Been a while since i came on the nicotine/smoking forum. I recently quit again and I'm on Day 23. This time around I've been going to a Nicotine Anonymous meetings. We only have 1 a week in my area, but 1 is better then none I guess. LOL Congrats on every one's smoke free time. We only have to worry about today not picking up. NOPE- Not One Puff Ever.

Day 24 and I'm not gonna pick up a smoke today. I'm feeling good. The week before last was really rough. I had a lot of depression real bad. I think it was a mourning process I was going through without smoking. Now I've been feeling good and have got my serenity back. Life is good. Congrats on making it through Hell week outonalimb Keep up the good work.

Glad to see everybody doing so well. Yesterday was 100 days quit for me, I only know that cause I got sent an email congratulating me from another site I go to, I lost track of days ages ago lol. Sometimes I can't believe I have managed to quit. I have tried many many times over the last 4 years, but none of them stuck. This time around it just seemed so easy, maybe I just finally had had enough, who knows, all I can say is I don't miss it one tiny bit anymore! Hope everyone has a happy smoke free day!

Saxony, Congratulations on your 100 days ! How great !! Keep going !! Today is #8 for me. I have to say, last night was really tough for some reason. I'm doing this cold turkey so I know the nicotine is out of my system but it sure felt like I was going thru physical withdraw again. My lungs were 'screaming' for a smoke... Yep, yesterday was probably my hardest day yet. But... I'm not going to give up. I AM going to do this. Keep going everyone !!!

Wow! This place is cooking!! Everyone is doing so great. Outonalimb Congrats on the 8 days! Are you eating enough to prevent your blood sugar from dropping? Also I really thought keeping myself hydrated seemed to make me more comfy. I ate a lot of raw carrots and other fresh veggies so I had something to substitute when I noticed the desire returning. Don't let a craving trick you into thinking your body needs a cig. Your body does not want one at 8 days. Love your attitude!! ![]() Saxony Congrats on the 100 days! Job well done! ![]() Scaredykat Great to see you at 24 days!! Keep going, you're doing great! ![]() I am at 117 days, 3,538 cigs not smoked, $852 saved and 12 days added to my expectant lifetime. |

Hi guys! I would like to join you! Yesterday was my belly button birthday. I decided that quitting smoking was going to be my birthday present to myself I have smoked off and on for 24 years, more on than off. Today is Day 2. But I am trying to treat it like I do drinking, it is not an option. I will not drink no matter what and now, I will not smoke, no matter what. Any support or suggestions would be great |

Welcome TTOSBT!! I used the patches, but I think there are several here who did it cold turkey. I know the first few days, I had more of a problem with figuring out what the heck to do with myself..never realized how much of my time smoking took up, until I wasn't doing it! I just tried to stay busy. I know people here have recommended hard sugar free candies, and the licorice twizzlers and dum-dum lollipops to keep hands/mouth occupied. I also did like you, as far as the "not an option" thing and that helped a lot. I'm sure others will be along soon with some more suggestions. Hugs and prayers! Amy

Thanks Amy! I am actually taking Wellbutrin (though this was not to quit smoking). I switched anti-depressants about 2 weeks ago from Celexa. My doctor prescribed Wellbutrin. So then a friend of mine told me a week ago that this drug was used to quit smoking. I had no idea. So the cool thing is that cigarettes started not tasting as good, etc. a couple of days ago. My husband quit 2 weeks ago but was still having one every night with me. I felt bad because I did not want him to start again because of me. And it is time. I am chewing gum |

Welcome aboard TTOSBT. Congratulations on your decision to quit! Lots of great support here from fellow quitters !Well, today was day 9 and it was pretty easy compared to yesterday. I had a handful of fleeting thoughts about smoking but they didn't last too long. I was on another support forum today and I came across a very effective way to look at my quit... Because I smoked a pack a day, I would have smoked almost 200 cigarettes over this same time period. I try to think about these 200 smelly, dirty cigarette butts in an overflowing ashtray and the whole smoking thing seems disgusting rather than attractive. I'm trying to keep that mental image in my head. I can definitely say I'm noticing that I have more energy. I used to run out of gas at about 7 each night...but here it is almost 9:00 and I'm still going strong. ![]() Anyway...I'm rambling...I know... Thanks for letting me vent and thanks for the support. ![]() SICKARETTES STINK !!! KEEP THE QUIT !!!

I am having a hard time tonight. I feel like it is one continuous craving. I have been snippy, I have cried, and I have been angry. I HATE feeling like this. Grr. Munching on red licorice. I will not smoke tonight. |

((TTOSBT)) - as much as I used to HATE to hear it...this too shall pass. I remember years and years ago when my mom quit she said her 3rd day was the worst and I think it was a toss up between the 2nd and 3rd for me. These feelings won't last, I promise. I was lucky enough to have a friend here that I e-mail and could vent to and that helped a lot. Beating the heck out of pillows helps, too Hank in there, sweetie. Tomorrow's another day and things always look better when the sun comes up. Hugs and prayers! Amy

Amy ![]() Thank you... I made it through the night, thank goodness. I am glad that there were no cigarettes around or I truly would have smoked one. BUT I would not go buy a pack, so I am still smoke free. Yay! Today is Day 3 and I hope that tonight is not as bad as last night. Evenings are the worst for me, because that is when I did the most smoking. That is also when I did the most drinking before I got sober. I am doing okay. Still obsessing. This has got to be mental because I was not smoking that much when I quit. Ugh!!! Anyway...so does anyone know where I can find one of those thingies that keeps track of how much money I am saving, etc. by not smoking? Thanks. |

I went to silkquit.com and it has a thing it just stays at the bottom of my computer. It keeps track in weeks, instead of days but it's pretty cool. If you look back a few pages, I think there are a few others mentioned. I'm so glad you made it through the night. My hardest time was when I was on the computer, and I thought I would NEVER get to the point where I didn't want to light up as soon as I opened my laptop, but I did and it really didn't take that long. Hugs and prayers! Amy

Hi guys, almost forgot to check in. today is Day 28 for me. On Thursday I pick up a white chip at Nicotine Anonymous. My husband goes with me too and he's been smoke-free for 3 months and got a red 90 day chip. I still have my lollipops with me. It helps a lot especially when I'm a round other people that smoke. Good to see you on here TTOSBT. Congrats on quiting smoking.

I CAN do this! You've been free of cigarettes for 3 days, 13 hours, 42 minutes & 31 seconds You have not smoked 53 cigarettes since then, and you have saved a total of $14.73. |

Woo-Hoo!!! TTOSBT. I'm not sure about the tightness in the chest. I didn't have that happen to me. I did have some anxiety the first few days, but i was taking Chantix the first week I stopped smoking. It was what i had left from all the other quits i tried. I didn't get another precrib cause the medicine bothers my stomach too much.
