| Smoking Dreams
Have any of you had dreams where you're smoking again? I have lately. It's kind of disturbing because the dreams are so realistic, I feel like I'm really smoking and really failing at quitting. I feel regretful and upset and I wish I wasn't doing it. Then I wake up later and realize I didn't smoke, and thank goodness I didn't! In the dreams, I'm in a stressful situation, one I would normally smoke during. But when I smoke, I know I'm breaking the rules and I shouldn't be doing it. So weird. I'm not on Chantix anymore, so it's not crazy Chantix dreams. Does anyone else dream of smoking?? |

Trust me, you're not going crazy. I'm a former tobacco chewer so I have dreams of a different sort, and when we're dealing with our addictions I think of them as nightmares, not dreams. My dreams always involve my teeth falling out, usually by the handful, I open my mouth and they're literally falling out of my head and I catch them in my hand. Gross. My gums are black and rotted. When I wake up I usually clamp my hand over my mouth, and give a big sigh of relief when I realize that it wasn't real. The good news is that the longer I'm tobacco free, the less I have those dreams. Even with drinking dreams I used to have them once a month, not it's every few months. So, I hope your dreams are more restful as the years pass.

Hi RedRuby, I have not had any dreams about smoking since I stopped. But I did have a very similiar dream about drinking after I had stopped previously that was disturbing. I remember that really weird feeling of having a drink and all of a sudden realizing that I wasn't supposed to be drinking and getting that feeling. The good part was waking up and realizing that it really didn't happen. |

Think of a smoking dream as "virtually reality smoking" we wake up and feel so reliefed that we did not really smoke. So it was a great way to prove to ourselves how good it is to be nicotine free, since in the dream there is a good chance you did not "enjoy" the cigarette. At least in my case if I smoked in the dream I always felt guilty in my dream and angry at myself for it! Then when I wake up I am so happy that it never really happened! Think of it as powerful reminder. | |
