Day 2 - feeling grumpy

I didn't smoke last Thursday, but smoked on Friday. Yesterday I didn't smoke again and so far today I have not had a cigarette. This morning I felt fine but now am going through a grizzly bear grumpy phase. I'm doing this cold turkey - nicotine replacement stuff just makes me crave the real thing more.

Way to go Dec!

I quit a little more than a month ago and also did it cold turkey without meds. The first few days were fairly intense but after that it let up a bunch. I was fairly cranky at first also but I found that hard candy seemed to help early on. My body seemed more sensitive to low blood sugar at first too so I was careful not to let myself get too hungry.

Please post in the daily update thread and let us know how you are doing. I got a lot of great help here from these wonderful folks by doing that.

Overall my impression of quitting is that is has been way easier than I expected. It is great to be free of that nasty habit.

Welcome!!

I noticed when I stopped thinking about wantin a cig or the possible effects of nopt havin one. I stopped bein grumpy...edgy..things like that.
But in all honesty. Days like today I wanted to smoke one so bad. Kept starin at butts here and there and thinking just one...Or I wanted to opunch someone in their face.
So we are goin to have those days no matter what.
Hang in there.

Today is back to work day, this is always a challenge. Last night i slept well, seems that all that oxygen in the body from not smoking gives me a deeper sleep. May today be, totally, ash free.

Yes nicotine only helped sleep by giving the body the poison it is addicted to but beyond fighting WD it hampers sleep.

Glad you are with us and have chose to stop smoking. I am so glad that I no longer smoke the benefits are great!!

Have a great day Dec!!

Well, I went three days but started again on the fourth day - due to work related stress and lack of commitment I guess. I'm now back on the quit, didn't smoke yesterday and don't intend on smoking today. It is going to help that tomorrow is a bank holiday, so minus the stress of work. Isn't smoking nothing but a form of slow suicide? We all know its deadly, gives us cancer and heart disease, messes with our circulation. Or do we just feel too lucky to suffer what we know can happen through long term use?

Great, glad your back Dec,
Your body still remembers and thanks you for three days of relief. You already know what the worst days are like, it really was the first three for me and then it started to get a lot easier. As many of the knowledgeable posters have noted here the craving phenomena really doesn't last long and passes quickly. I substituted hard candy very early on to distract myself. It got disgusting but it did help me get over the hump.

At around a month and a half months I have already saved $300 and added around 4 1/2 days to my expected life time.

Hang in there Dec!!
