| saying hi
Hi, I'm new to this site and hoping to find the support I need to stop drinking and smoking. I can't tell you how many times I have quit, only to start back and of course hate myself every time it happens. I don't even smoke every day, but when things happen in my life that are hard to take, I fall back into it. Right now, for instance, it's been a week since the person I thought I was going to marry broke up with me, and I have been smoking like a fiend. I hate it, but I start to search for comfort and there it is.

idontknow1, Welcome to SR and the nicotine forum! ![]() There's no reason to hate yourself for not succeeding in your quit yet. Indeed, studies clearly indicate that the majority of us quit multiple times before we "get it" and quit for good. I was quit for over two years and relapsed. So, put that nonsense away, and recognize that you're human; no worse and no better than the rest of us, ok? There's a bunch of stickies up top of the forum. I hope you'll take the time to look them over. Then, come on to the daily check in thread. There you will get to know a bunch of good folks, supporting each other in their quits and cheering each other on. Hope to see you there. Shalom!

idontknow1? sounds like you're in great need of a: Huddle Hug! :ghug from everybody. That's how we pull together around here. I think an important "first step" is to really dig out and weigh out all the pros and cons of smoking. Which way does the scale tip? Why do you find smoking pleasurable and/or beneficial in your life? (jot down 12 reasons) Why do you want to quit? (jot down 12 good reasons for quitting) Then explore the various stop-smoking methods available, ways to prepare and handle withdrawal symptoms, cravings, and triggers, and eventually set a Quit Date, say goodbye, and let go. You have come to the right place. You'll receive lots of tips, support, and hugs. Take good care. Good seein' ya. cess101 It Took time to learn how to smoke. It will take time to learn how to stop. |
