| More than just the nicotine?
Are us smokers (or former smokers) addicted to more than just the nicotine? I'm not talking about the ritual or using your hands for something or anything like that. Someone told me last night that all the other chemicals in cigs (arsenic, for example) are addictive as well. It was in the context of switching from a "normal" cigarette to a supposedly all natural tobacco cig. This person said that smokers can get "sick" when switching because they are going from all sorts of chemicals to just nicotine and their body is missing the other stuff. Any truth in that? Any opinions? |

I don't know for sure, although it makes sense to me. Though I wonder about the patch then - is that just nicotine, or do they add in the other chemicals as well? I used the patch when quitting, and I didn't get sick from them... But your body does probably get used to ingesting a certain chemical combo...

If your consciously and sub consciously linking pleasure to a substance or act all the time. Obviously your going to long for it. So i think addiction is mental first, physical second. Is it more then just nicotine? absolutely. However nicotine would be the first thing to knock off the list to help curb cravings. IMO if you ingest anything into your body for long periods of time your body is going to adapt to it. Therefore its only natural that once its gone your going to feel a need for it. At least for a while. |
