Chantix UPDATE

I promised myself that when I ran out of cig&^%$#es, I would quit.

I started Chantix about two weeks ago, and had my last smoke about 3 am this morning. (Yea, I smoked in bed - on medication, no less).

So, as of this minute, 11:16 am, Pacific Standard Time, I have 8 hours and 15 minutes being smoke-free.

I've been thinking about it, and even wondered where I threw the last butts, but yesterday bought packs of SUGAR FREE LifeSavers (no pun intended!) and just popped one into the old pie hole.

Please, even in your struggle, send me a prayer - thank you.

Steph

OH here's a God-shot for ya! A week ago, I started much-needed dental work - deep scaling and a CLEANING! hahahaha - Ain't HP cool?

You did the right thing!

Ignore the "quit date"

Quit when you run out. That is what I did. I even sold two cartons so I ran out sooner!

from 60 a day to ZERO (actually my last day was 72, I counted them as I smoked them!)

Chantix is great! However, taking the "drug" did not make you quit..... YOU DID!

Did you mean 72 cigarettes a DAY? Well, I got in 16 hours, than sat eating chocolate watching TV, starting jonesing, and ran to the general store.

After 3-4 felt my nose stuff up, my mouth feel like a gerbil died in it, and I'm back to where i was - now I understand relapse A LOT better....

I'm on week 3, again this yr... One thing I have learned is to not let this consume you. If you don't think about it, then you won't feel the craving as much.

Fireballs are my "lifesavers" so to speak.

I promise you that in two to three weeks, you will begin to taste food differently and you will be able to smell a smoker approach you, they will reak of wet ashtray smell.

You will begin to sleep better since you will beging sleeping better which will also help you feel better about yourself (your rested).

You just have to tell yourself that it is a done deal and your not going to smoke.
I admit that you will have to distant yourself from other smokers for a while, but after the nictine releases the strangle hold it hass on you, you will be able to freely move about without worry.

Understand your weakness and avoid them until you are stronger than the cravings.

I'm the king of quitting, my weakness comes at month 2-3 and it starts out with drinking a couple beers with a bunch of guys that are smoking... I think you can figure out the rest.

I will shed this habit if it kills me !
You can quit too if you really want to.

Almost two years...

All,

I just wanted to visit and let you know that giving up smoking with Chantix is doable. I actually quit using NRTs, got hooked on them and used Chantix to get off the gum.

But, do all you can to learn everything you can about addiction. There is a really good smoking cessation forum that has links to just about any information you need to quit.

But, the best thing is to vent your frustrations to your quit smoking buddies because they understand and can help you get through the worst of the cravings.

Oh, and get yourself a quit smoking meter. They are really cool and help motivate you.

See?

One year, eleven months, two days, 1 hour, 32 minutes and 1 second. 28122 cigarettes not smoked, saving $5,272.98. Life saved: 13 weeks, 6 days, 15 hours, 30 minutes.

Thanks everybody.

I am still on Chantix, but have smoked again - but, I did notice that driving to town (an Hour away) I never smoked once!!! I didn't even realize it until I got to the dentist's office. So my cravings are much less than before and not triggered by the usual - after coffee, food, TV, etc.

I have heard of people who never set a quit date and just noticed they smoked less and less until they didn't pick up at all.

Dear HP, if it's Your will for me, CAN I BE ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE????

Thanks for all your support and success stories - where is that smoking cessation forum?

Good for you

Sounds like you are on the right track. I know several people who quit smoking using Chantix. I know at least two people who quit taking the Chantix too soon, once they hadn't smoked for a day or so. I think you need to keep taking it for a while to keep those nicotine receptors at bay...

I haven't posted enought to put a link here so at quitsmoking.about.com there is a smoking cessastion forum that has loads of information and tips to help people quit. Scroll halfway down the page and look for this:

The Smoking Cessation Forum here ... Click on the link to the forum and either take a look or join up. No cost involved... it is just a place where a lot of people help each other. I'm sure this site will be that way when more people come across it...

Of course, a lot of that information is here, as well, but I will admit that without the support of people at the forum I participated in while quitting, I couldn't have done it, with or without NRTs or chantix.

Karen - Free and Healing for One Month, Nine Days, 21 Hours and 23 Minutes, while extending my life expectancy 2 Days and 1 Hour, by avoiding the use of 598 nicotine delivery devices that would have cost me $149.84.
