Have a happy and safe Independence Day! ![]() What's your plan to keep yourself nicotine free during the cook outs and parties? Get some thoughts together before you head out for the day, and get tempted by that pack left sitting right in front of you! Or the friend who hasn't seen you since your quit and offers you one! OY! How will you handle these situations? Remember to keep the quit! And this time, you'll have to do something else, cuz you won't be home to post before you puff! ![]() Enjoy your holiday! Shalom!

Thanks historyteach. Even now, the triggers remain (especially at gatherings around smoker friends/family/past associates, etc.). The thing that changed, however, is how to cope (without reaching for a cigarette). I reach within my little head and/or heart and find something better. And it's almost automatic like that - WOW! It really is amazing. Withdrawal symptoms will pass! Give quitting your best because the best deserves the best (doesn't it?) and quitting is the best thing a person can do for his or her life. You can do this! Dig deep and you'll see (many reasons you desire to quit). Keep up the good quits. PS How was everybody's 4th of July?

Cess, I went to a party on the 4th, where I was the ONLY non-smoker! OMG!!! ![]() But, I went with my bag of tricks. ![]() I kept myself busy. I prepared the appitizers. I took multiple strolls around the gardens at my friends house. And I helped cook the steaks. In short, anytime I felt a craving, I did something different. Behavior modification. Instead of reaching for a smoke, I used a different behavior. And, once more, it got me through the difficult times. We can do this, one day at a time, with preparation and the determination never to pick up again. As Cess says, NOPE - Not One Puff Ever! ![]() Keep the quit and post before you puff! Shalom!

I too was surrounded by smokers at a 4th party- they had a horseshoe pit there though, and I kept myself busy doing that- or finding one of the kids and throwing something at them or trying to make them laugh re-directing yourself when the urge strikes is huge
