Ready to quite..but scared still I just got my chanix, I truly do want to quite smoking.. Does it make any sense that I'm a bit scared to quite? CIG's where I live are up to 7.25 PER PACK! I simply can't afford it anymore. I think their trying to get all NY'ers to quite.. I can't even imagine how much a pack is in NYC now. I know they were around 7 dollars before, they must be up to 10 dollars now. ACK!! Taxes suck!! Anyhow, I am ready, scared but ready. Wish me luck. I will keep the thread abreast on how all is going. ~LC PS.. If anyone has any tips or tricks please please post whatever you have. Thansk

Check the stickies at the top of the forum for tips to help in your quit. Also, long and short term behavior modification. Switch what you're doing. Like, drink tea instead of coffee. Brush your teeth right after dinner, instead of lighting up. Take a short walk when you get a craving. These are great short term modifications. Join a gym or take a class for long term behavior modification. Something that involves lung action is great. I did the gym and chorus when I quit. Each one depended on my quit, cuz, if I slipped, my lungs would let me know about it right away! ![]() I'm picking up my chantix today. I quit for over two years, and had a slip in December. Now, I'm going for the gold again. I will not give up on myself. So, let's be quit buddies! Shalom!

Headstrong, What are you scared of? Quitting is the best thing you can do for yourself. Try to walk dailey instead of grabbing food as a sub. Or keep some plastic straws around that you cut down and use them as a fake cigarette. Yes you just hold them when you want a ciggie, put it to your mouth, inhale deeply and blow it out just like you had a real ciggie in your hand. It works if you let it. The urges seem to come in waves, some longer some shorter and they roll away. I quit because I needed surgery and heard you had to stop 3 months befor! I just stopped and I still can't believe it. I miss them but my kids hated smokes and do today so I hope I am done for good after years and years. Tell yourself no I don't want one when you get the urge...be serious with yourself. Each day will get better, not easier but better and soon you will find your not getting up thinking about that smoke first thing...then you will be at lunch and say wow I didn't even think about it today till now. Just give yourself time and believe you can, you can, and do not think negative thoughts. and how hard it is ONLY POSITIVE. Good luck to you. BG
