Day 1 here

I've decided to make today day 1 of quitting smoking. I'll check on here periodically and give updates. I have found this board useful for stopping drinking, so I am going to do the same thing for smoking.

Are you going cold turkey or using medication?

Nicorrette at times. Don't know if that counts as cold turkey or not.

Cooperate in what way? I can't think of how weather would have anything to do with it, unless you're going camping. That would be hard. Where in Portland do you live?

Cooperate as in, if it is pleasant weather I am more apt to be out enjoying it, rather than cooped up and bored and craving a smoke.

Well, I broke down and had three cigarettes last night. I have smoked four cigarettes total since Wednesday. I'm newly on the drinking wagon also, so it's been a little tough. I didn't smoke today and I'm still going strong. Not perfect, but I'll get there. Thanks for your support everybody.

Well, I didn't smoke Sunday and had a cigarette last night. The lesson I have learned is that I should carry nicorette with me. This is harder than I thought, but I will make today day #1 again and get some nicorrette.

Steam,
I have tripped, fallen, stumbled you name it.
I just keep getting back up...that for me is the trick.
Keep at it, its worth it.

same here..

Actually I'm within my first hour of not smoking. Does that count?
Also I am an alcoholic and I've been sober for 18 years with meetings. Now I need smoking meetings.

Best of luck and DONT BEAT YOUSELF up if you falter - thats what the disease wants you to do.

Well, I'm finally doing it. Day 8 without a puff. The psychical part is getting much easier, and I am working actively to convince myself that I don't want a cigarette. So far so good. I can't wait to get to 3 weeks.
