Atta girl, Karen!!! You can DO this!! One day at a time, yes you can. Have you got a plan for times when you'll be tempted? Have you cleaned out your house and car of triggers? Like the ash trays, lighters, matches, and few remaining cigs? Do you have any supplies you may plan on using? Like gum, hard candies, the patch, or any meds? Do you have the telephone numbers of support lines - for those "I can't STAND it" times? Lung association; cancer association, for example. What are you planning to do to replace the time you smoke with? What are you going to do when you would normally reach for a butt? Like, directly after dinner? Or when you're on the phone? Or driving the car? Make a plan for those times. It helps break the habbit. I wish you the best of luck. Post often and let us know how you're doing. Shalom!

That's awesome Karen! What a great gift to your health after your 1st year of sobriety. You can do it!

Thanks! This is going to be hard. I don't smoke during the workday. I never even think about it. Today, of course I THOUGHT about it..I know this voice in my head very very well..that sneaky addiction voice. Same one that handles the booze lol.

I quit chewing tobacco a few months before I quit drinking, and I have to admit my drinking really took off until I sobered up. But I haven't chewed in over 3 years. It is hard, there are so many things I associate that addiction with. And that's the problem for me, the association. I chewed when I worked, when I fished, when I camped, when I cooked, when I drank, etc., etc., etc. But just like drinking, it's definitely possible to stop and never do it again. It takes hard work, effort, perseverance, and abstinence. I know you can do it Karen, and you're taking the right approach in practicing the Steps as part of your recovery from nicotine addiction. Way to go!

My AA friend who is quitting smoking with me brought a huge bag of candy (some sugar freee!) to the meeting tonight. We're going to check in with each other every day..that'll help!

| I go through loads of sunflower seeds! The sodium probably isn't all that great for me, but the tobacco was much worse!

Good luck. My husband and I have 9 days in. It bothers me most when I come home from work. That was my way to unwind. Now I get on my ski machine and do a mile workout. Hugs, Marle
