Hey

Was thinking about giving it a shot to quit smoking. It is a love, hate thing to me. Love to smoke but hate what is does to me. If I could even cut my smoking in half would be a start. I even tryed to smoke one cig an hour but found myself looking at the clock all day.

But want to say Hi and see what everyone here is doing.

It's a start for me just to be here.

Hi, I am quitting using the patch. It worked for me in the past when I quit for three years (started up again when my grandfather died...bad move).

I was where you were, I didn't like what the cigs were doing, but I loved them at the same time. I just couldn't taper off either. Now, today, I find myself craving nicotine. I have three choices, let the patch do its thing alone, smoke a cigarette, or go out in the rain to buy some nicotine gum for breakthrough cravings. Number 3 looks the best by far...and that is a major step for me.

Welcome to the board, and yes coming here is a BIG first step.

Hey there Comet...glad to see you!
One of the things my Doctor told me, that I think is allowing me to hold on is that I have only agreed to not smoke one day at a time. Thinking forever is way out of my league right now.
It sounds silly, but I fell I may have a slip...just not today. Those todays are starting to add up. Woohoo!

Alera, I had HORRIBLE break through cravings the third and fourth day. I posted here asking if you can get a bum patch lol

Hi, Congratulations for giving quitting serious consideration - that's the first step. I too am using the patch and am on day 18. I AM proud that I've gotten this far and do intend to do my best to continue smoke free for good, but I have to say, I'm still not enjoying it much. I tried cutting back a number of times, but that never lasted very long and I've come to realize the where cigarettes are concerned I'm like an alcoholic. One leads to another, which leads to another and before I know it, I'm smoking half a pack a day again. I know eventually I'll feel better, but right now there's a void that chewing gum and/or lollipops aren't fixing. I do have to admit that I enjoy going to bed much more...I no longer lay there before falling asleep feeling guilty about smoking, and the fact that I'm increasing my risk of lung cancer and COPD daily. Now I take several slow, deep breaths and feel proud that I've gotten through another smoke free day. It's a start anyway! Let us know how you're doing.
