The wunnerful WIZ Doctor OZ

... did anyone else catch Oprah show with Dr. Oz's four steps to quitting smoking?

I went four days after that show without even a TOUCH of a craving.

It was something he said.
Something I didn't know.

This woman was talking about sometimes she smokes in her car with her five year old daughter in the car.

Dr. Oz pipes up and says - "well, then your daughter is alread a smoker."

Was this man ALIVE in the SIXTIES?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Did he fall off an asteroid or something !?!?!?!?!?!

My DOCTOR smoked for craps sake!

But it got me thinking.
That 'avalanche' thinking us alcoholics do ya know.

My mother .... smoked when she was pregnant.
Both my parents - were heavy smokers.
Both my dead parents, I probably ought to add.

I've ... according to HIS thought train ...
never NOT smoked.
This entire lifetime.

Alla sudden I'm like ... ka-ZANG!!!

No WONDER I'm so lost without the behaviors.
no WONDER it's impossible to get grounded.
no WONDER I go MANIC and it won't stop.
See - when I did the whole drining thing - I could draw on remembered life experiences that happened BEFORE I ever drank. Or before I used ddrugs, dim and ancient times, thought those memories may be ....
It might not have been GREAT for a point of reference , but it was better than DRUNK, right?

The contrast here is - I've not known any time of life without smoke involved.
This whole life.
Even in the oven.

Suddenly .. all of it - I mean ALL of it .... made sense.
Why the problem.

and in .. what... 6? five days?
I've had about ... half a cigarette.

Something ... clicked.

Just wondered if anyone else caught that show.

And I'm still holding up.

I'm positively ... 'agog'.

(((Barb)))

No, but I wish I had. I don't know if my mom smoked when she was pregnant, but she might have. I know she and dad smoked my entire childhood. Interesting thought. Although, I was 21 before I started smoking....when I was young I HATED it 'cause mom and dad would smoke in the car and not roll the window down.

Hang in there!

Makes sense to me. Both my parents were heavy smokers. My mom passed at the young age of 52 of cancer, my dad is 72 in a nursing home due to multiple strokes (caused by smoking).
Now if thats not a wake up call I don't know what is.

I'm at day 12...slipped and had 1 this past weekend. I was happy to learn it wasn't that great afterall.
Its the longest I've ever gone (apparently in my life) without a cig.

I'm now "impatiently" waiting for the "want" to lesson lol

I didn't see the show, but I do think there is validity to that theory. CeCe good job on catching that slip before it went into a smoking relapse!

Im 52. I remember when they had ash trays in every aisle of every store!! Yep, even the grocery store and pharmacy.
Isn't that just dumbfounding? Because smoking became so common place after ww2.
There was never a day we went with out smoke! My father died at 54 from smoking related cancer!!!
My mother finally quit when she was 45.
I finally quit two days ago.
Learning how to live. It's like I never really lived. I just hung out in a fog till I went to sleep. And, even had ash trays in the bedroom!

Wascal -
your avatar makes me smile. Can't help it. It cracks me up. Thanks.

I am glad this makes some sense to others.
I've still stuck it out with just the half ... and I'm okay.

*amazed*

Yes, I remember ash trays in the waiting room at the doctor and the dentist.

Make no mistake - I'm manic no lidding - but this time - I UNDERSTAND something.
And it makes the manic ... do-able.
Before - it was just something ... I couldn't COPE with any more.

Here after tha tshow .. I can.

Cope, I mean.

thanks, y'all!

Not as aged and wise as you, but I do remember all the women going to the grocery store and smoking in there. They would all have the cigs hanging from their lips as they used both hands on the grocery carts. Now I go *ick* ... I wouldn't want all that smoke on my food!

Remember ash trays on the air planes?
Yup, I've smoked my entire life too, except the two years I quit, that is...
I've gotta get back to where I once was...
I miss that place.

Remember to keep the quit and post before you puff!

Shalom!

hI -

YOU KNOW - i'M STILL DOING REALLY good.

and I'm wondering - why can't they make a PILL for that first smoke of the day?

what am I missing here?

but - after that program - I'm not so .. 'clutchy' at the usual ritualistic times.

(like finishing home tasks, after meals, on the phone is still a toughie)
