Quitting

Hi I am currently trying to give up the habit. I have a few questions, I have been smoking for about four years now, I want to quit I am not sure if I should use chantix or just go for it cold turkey. I was curious how much weight you think I would put on by quitting? Also how long are do the physical withdrawls last?

Hi!

Unfortunately, I can't answer your questions, as I just quit smoking 2 days ago I'm doing it cold-turkey because I read of too many side effects with Chantix for some people, though I know it has worked for some.

Hopefully, someone will come along and enlighten us! I was smoking a pack/day...have been smoking for 25 years, on and off (quit 3-4 years at a time at least twice).

I started on Chantix in November. I was also concerned with all the written side effects but I did not have any. I stopped smoking after two weeks. I am still taking the RX. Personally, I still want a cig. often. I have noticed that when I get stressed out I want one more. From talking with others who have been quit for many years, they say they still want one at times. I am trying to treat it like any other addiction--- I am powerless!! I stay busy and the craving will go away---and come back!!!

Your choice as to using an aide or going cold turkey. Whatever you choose, recognize you can always pick the other if the first doesn't work. And don't give up if you don't succeed the first time. This is one time where the quitter is the winner!
