| same planet...different world | Not giving up ... dammit
hi - well here we go again. had the 'reaction' to chantix - extreme and sudden depression ... so 'off' that no kidding. had to give it a while to work out of the system. meanwhile - I found the Montana Quit line. They send you patches free - call you with support you can call THEM 24/7 ... so ... my BP is up .. but only to the 'highe side of normal' ... so I'm goin for it.

Good for you, Barb!!! Never give up is right. I quit so many times before my last quit, I can't keep count. But, it was a goal I wanted to achieve for me. Each and every time I relapsed, I learned something that helped me in my quit. I also used the RI quit line. Patches, gum, and group and telephone counseling were provided with the tobacco settlement money. I got the zyban from my doctor, and also had telephone counseling from the Lung Association. I'm not ashamed to say I needed help and I used all that was available. So, keep up the good work, Barb! You will win this battle. Your good health is the reward. ![]() Shalom!

Saturday is the day Teach - I needed to be away from work ... just in case. I'm so 'reactive' to stuff any more. So, I've done the setting up of the house, and will go back to scrubbing walls this weekend. I'm amazed at the support line of the State quit line... they were downright 'squealie' when I told 'em I was in recovery ... LOL ... because I could apply the Steps and all.

| I found that I can't do that. A half after a quit is why I still smoke' It only took one for me to be right back where I started. I may be joining you in the quit line soon.

Hey Barb - I've got 1-1/2 packs of cigarettes left and them I'm going to try to quit cold turkey. The main incentive I have right now is I'm trying to get my own place and need $$...figure that $90 plus a month can be put to better use. I'll have to warn everyone at work, because I figure I'll be quite a grouch for a few days. I REALLY don't want to gain weight by eating everything in sight, either (hard to NOT do it when you work in a restaurant). Anyway, I'll let you know when I run out of the cigs. You'll probably hear me screaming from Atlanta At least I can come here and get some sympathy and advice! Hugs and prayers! Amy

You can do it Amy - I'm just making it harder than it needs to be, I think. And yeah - everyone here at work knows - they're so fgunny ... "how ya doin barb?' (in that 'hospital' voice ya know) before they tell me anything. LOL

People at work last night were (as usual) trying to bum cigarettes off me...told them "this is my last pack and I'm smoking every single one of them....so go buy your own!!" I'm TRYING to keep a positive attitude about it. My cigarettes are a little over $3/pack, so I plan on putting $4/day in my piggy bank so I can actually see how much I spend. At least I know I can come here and get support. I'll have to at least "act" happy about it at work...I wait tables and won't get many tips if I'm grumpy. Guess the bums at work will have to find someone else to bum off of. I can't figure out how you can say you smoke when you never have a cigarette OR a lighter!!! I finally started charging them .25 a cigarette. Tomorrow, when I come back, I will have quit. Hugs and prayers! Amy

Wow - in Australia cigarettes are between $8 and $13 a pack... evil things, I smoked roll-yer-owns for years because they were so much cheaper. Just wanted to say that I haven't had a cigarette in over a month, don't want them any more, and that all of you can give them up! 18 years - never again. You can do it! ndz |

I'm still not giving up. Stubborn ... omg ... stubborn am I. But I'm not. Giving up. I'm able to go a few days now - then - bang - half a smoke. So I keep saying day one. It's not the nicotine any more. I'vfe been doing this for almost six months now. It's the BEHAVIOR ... that's slowly changing. I'm not going to get all down on myself ... that's the fastest way to get an alcoholic giving up. IT's just another day.
