| Quit yesterday
Hello Everyone... I thought I'd come and chat and read on this thread a bit after I decided yesterday it was my time to quit. I got angry at my AH when he took half of my pack of cigarettes because we have no money right now to buy cigarettes. I thought about really and felt how crazy is this... I'm angry at him for feeding his addiction to nicotine... but what I'm really upset about is that its taking away from my addiction to nicotine. Never really saw it that way before but then a light went off in my head and said o.k. girl this is bad and its time to quit. So when I got to work yesterday I gave the rest of the cigs I had to a fellow smoker and grabbed a cup of tea. I never smoke during work hours... very rarely unless I'm having a bad day. I love a cigarette on the way to get the kids and then I smoke after dinner and on the phone. So instead of having that smoke yesterday after work I made myself a hot cup of Jasmine green tea to take with me... it helped. Then last night instead of smoking after I ate... I cleaned up my back porch, threw away the old stinky cigarette buds, cleaned everything up nice...lite some incense and put away the ashtrays and lighters. Its nice again that if I want to sit out there to read or talk on the phone I can and just bring something else with me to keep my mouth and hands busy. I made myself a concoction of Hops and Scullcap tincture in my seven up to help relax me... oh boy did that work!! The kids and I just relaxed by the tree and watched kid nation I was fine. I started getting the thoughts of wanting a cigarette the most when that late afternoon hour started approaching. Any suggestions on what to do with some of the intense cravings? Thanks for listening and being here to support each other. Peace, Shaun

Congratulations, ajangels2! You're doing just the right thing. Notice how you're replacing smoking with doing other things? Changing behaviors was the key to my quit. Aftrer 36 years of smoking, I've now been quit for Two years, two weeks, 20 hours, 57 minutes and 40 seconds. 29794 cigarettes not smoked, saving $8,193.60. Life saved: 14 weeks, 5 days, 10 hours, 50 minutes. ![]() Make plans for when the cravings come. Decide in advance what you will do. You know they will come, and a plan will help you face it better. I went to the gym when I first quit. It cut on the weight gain, and kept me busy. Both things helped me stay with my quit and avoid cravings. I also joined the chorus. Again, it helped overcome cravings. But, the gym and the chorus also provided immediate physical feedback to me. I could feel the change my body was making. And, had I slipped, I would have felt it immediately too! So, they were both a good help to me. And they are both differeent behaviors too, note. I wish you the best. Check in on out daily chek in thread. And remember one thing: Keep the quit and post before you post! ![]() Shalom!

Note: Im not condoning any of my methods... I quit cigarettes a little over two weeks ago. My friend was over... I sat down outside with him and said, hey man, will you chill with me while I enjoy my very last cigarette? He left when I was about half done and haha consequently I put it out a bit early (I normally sucked em down to the bitter end...) Im not going to lie, I used marijuana to help me quit smoking cigarettes cold turkey (only 3/4 pack a day smoker tho). I find my biggest addiction is to the physical act of smoking and as testimony to this I can recall when I first quit smoking that Id always need to put my hand out the window of my car just as a routine... This is my 2nd time quitting, I relapsed after 3 years sober this past summer. Man, I know how those cravings feel. Ive denied myself from buying packs and then I'll scavenge the street and smoke other people's butts( which might be why I very sadly tested positive for HPV2). On a brighter note... Currently on day 14 of cigarette freedom and Im currently on day 2 of being marijuana free now (which has been another longterm addiction)... |
