Why not make this forum topic a Roll Call? It can look like this:

Free From Nicotine 4/4/08 Roll Call

Hemi - Day 96

That's not a bad idea!
I LIKE it!!!
Perhaps the next time we have to change the thread, I'll do that.
What's everyone else say?

Free From Nicotine Roll Call

Let me know, and we can decide if we want to change the title of the thread or not.

Shalom!

Well, today, I start my Chantix.

Some of you may remember that I quit and stayed quit for over two years.
Then, I relapsed. Stress. :>(

It's been a bit over 3 months. I'm no where near the level I used to smoke, but, I'm a smoker again, for sure. I'm so mad at myself! And with my asthma, it's really bad! I had a recent bout of bronchitis and thought I was going to die! My chest hurt so badly, I went and had an exray, cuz, I was certain I had pnemonia! I didn't, though. Just asthma, bronchitis and smoking.

So, today, I start the chantix. The doc and the pharmicist both report very good results. And I"m on vacation next week, so, that's my quit date. I thought it best to begin my quit while I was on vacation. I went a bit nutso last time I quit, and I don't want to take it out on the kiddies at school! :rof

Say a lil prayer for me, will ya? I need it!

Shalom!

Good Luck historyteach! I'm on day 16 of Chantix and feel I can quit, I just haven't! Why haven't I quit? I'm not craving a smoke, I think it's habit. I have gotten down to less a pack a day from 2 packs daily. Yesterday I went 14 hrs without smoking, or even thinking about it, yet today I smoked. I'm going to try to quit tomorrow. I really feel the Chantix has helped!

That's great to hear, tstorm!
Try exchanging smoking behaviors with some other behaviors -- hopefully something more healthful. WHen I quit before, I exchanged smoking for going to the gym and going to chorus. Both of those behaviors required lung action. So, they depended on my staying smoke free, or I would feel it right away.
It helped.
I'm going to do that again.

Shalom!

Historyteach, I will help. You will double the dose in 3 days, and then you'll really notice, if not before.

Yesterday was day four. I almost forgot and took the second dose at bedtime. S, I'm hoping that I will begin to feel whatever sometime today.

What am I supposed to feel? Thus far, I'm smoking as normal, but, I haven't had my morning dose cuz I haven't eaten yet. The pharmacist said to take it after eating to make sure I don't get nausous. It's worked so far, and I know many people have complained about that. I haven't had any problem there.

Anyway, time to get ready for work. Have a great day, everyone.

Shalom!

I started on my 4th week today and have been smoking right along. I did get the number cut down to under half a pack but still smoking. Today I decided I had to put more effort into it, and haven't smoked YET. Chantix hasn't made me nauseous but I eat before I take it. I wake up several times a night but go back to sleep. I'm not having nightmares. Hang in there Historyteach!

Hey, everyone....
I did it once more!!!!
I went the day without a cigarette!!!!

And ya know what?
I really didn't miss it much!
Oh, I had a few cravings here and there.
But, the Chantix really was different than the zyban!!!!

I was really able to let it go. It just didn't bother me.
On the zyban, it *did* bother me alot!!!
I went a bit nutso for a while. And I had a lot of problems with the medication itself!

I'm not experiencing that at all now.
And I don't have prolonged cravings for nicotine that I have to overcome like I did before with the zyban.

It really is a profound difference, at least right now, on the first day!

Shalom!

History,
I'm pulling for you!!! I know you can do it!!! You helped me so much when I quit, you know all the things you need to do, and I KNOW you CAN do it!!!

Don't forget: think before you smoke, and it's the first puff that does you in, not the second, not the tenth! Don't forget your HP too!!! Your HP is there to help as well!!!

Keep up the great job everyone! Some days I really feel like just smoking. I'm glad thus far I haven't. Extremely stressful at work lately. I of course live in MI where the number of people unemployed is well, hideous. Jobs are very difficult to come by and companies are shutting their doors faster than you can snap your fingers. Economically getting pretty tough around here. My husband and I both are concerned about our jobs; neither of us have jobs that are certain right now. We keep taking it a day at a time and are grateful each day that we are still employed because there are so many right now who aren't.

Feeling a lot of stress, knowing that my HP is right next to me though, helping us through. My prayers go out to all those who need some help, in whatever respect needed... Despite all, I am so blessed. Though sometimes smoking sounds great; I'm still very grateful to be free of this addiction for another day!

Bless you all, keep up the great work! It's tough getting rid of the "nico-demon", but SOOO worth it!!!
Jen

My name is Jen, and I am a nicotine addict.
I have stopped nicotine for 2 years, 23 days, 23 hours, 7 minutes and 10 seconds (754 days).

I've not smoked 22649 death sticks, and saved $4,673.27.
I've saved 78 days, 15 hours and 24 minutes of my life.
What a blessing, thank You, God!!!

Today is day two! I made it through the first day!!!!

Thanks, Jlo; I appreciate your support. And I'm glad you mentioned my HP. Cuz, it made me think of something Mark Sichel, our expert forum leader, taught me a few years ago, when I first quit...

Nais gadol haia po -- A great miracle is happening here.
Isn't that the truth?
Think of all the good things happening in the body when we quit!.
And to the spirit!

So, here's to another good day, smoke free.

Keep the quit and post before you puff!

Shalom!

Today is the start of my 3rd month smoke free. Never did I ever think that I could quit, but I decided to take a page from the substance abuse forum. I just tell myself that no matter what happens I will not smoke. It is not an option anymore. So when I get a craving, I eat something or read something or do some exercise or I just ride it out. It is getting a bit easier. Hugs, Marle

I smoked my last cigerette 3 pm on Saturday. I haven't had once since. Of course, it's only Monday night...
I'm still on Chantix and feel if I wasn't taking it, I'd be smoking. I plan to stay on Chantix for 3 months like recommended. I want to help myself as long as a I can and maybe by then, I won't care about smoking.
Historyteach, are you still taking Chantix?? Good luck! and good luck to everyone!!

Yes, I'm on the Chantix, and it's working like a charm!
Today is day three and I'm doing great.
Yes, there are small cravings, but, nothing too big.

Already my cough is clearing up! That's becasue I have asthma, so when I smoke it's aggrivated. So, I already feel better!

I'm eating more, though...
But, that was a problem due to some meds I'm taking. I see the doc today, and will talk to her about that today.

Best of luck to you too, tstorm! You can do this!

Remember to keep the quit and post before you puff!

Shalom!

Still not smoking here.
I started mid January with the patch, felt the pains when I stepped down to the lesser nicotine patch and went on Chantix. But that really did a nember on my digestive system, so I stopped taking that and just stuck to the quit.
I really think both the above helped me oner the hardest part and I would have had much more trouble had I not used the methods, but eventually it comes down to feeling as if I'm a non smoker.
I still have intense cravings at times, but they're fewer and further between. I've slipped up on occassion but got back on track quickly. I've only smoked a few of the non-nicotine cigs since the quit.
Onward we go...!

I still haven't smoked since Sat. 3pm. It hasn't bothered me much either. Today had a stressful time at work, and that's the only time it really bothered me. I really wanted to go smoke, but didn't! I'm through that now. I'm on my 4th week of Chantix. I'm getting along fine with it so far. I've ate more this week though. Next week I'm going to have to watch that! Good luck everyone!!

I finished day 5 without ciggies.
And today was pretty dang stressful.

Mom had surgery. She's fine, though they tore her skin again during it. More rehab!
My ex had a heart attack, which I just found out about. He's ok, thank goodness.
Trevor's out on a run again...
And I had court, went to the wrong building, and have to go back tomorrow.

But, I didn't smoke! Whew!

Keep the quit and post before you puff!

Shalom!

I'm popping in here a little late to tell everyone congrats on their quitting smoking!

I started chantix and quit smoking at the end of October 2007. I quit the chantix on December 29th 2007! It's hard to believe I can function without smoking every hour of the day! I had terrible nausea just about the whole time I took chantix, but it was well worth it.

Keep up the good work everyone!
