| Now is the moment!
Hello, everyone! I usually post on the Friends of As board so there are many things I have learned about addictions. Lately, I have been thinking more and more about my own smoking as an addiction and been able to see more clearly into how difficult it is for an A or a drug addict to quit their substance of choice. I am FED UP with smoking! I hate the smell on other people and I hate smelling cigarette smoke on myself! There are so many places I can't smoke that I am beginning to wonder why I even bother with a substance that isn't helping me and costs so much money. I wasn't (love that past tense!) smoking a lot....maybe half a pack a day but even that is TOO much. OK...I had one cigarette this morning. Cannot smoke in the house (always has been my rule!) and there is no fun in smoking outdoors in the rain at 7am! What is the point????? Is it OK if I keep this as a running diary? Going to work now and the cigs are at home in a drawer. Going to get through a half day of teaching with no cigarettes. Shouldn't be too difficult. When I get home, I will make a point of breaking that routine! Wish me luck! ARL

welcome to the quit areallady! i won't tell you that it will be easy, but it's SO worth it in the end. there is no "luck" involved in a successful quit - it's all about a daily decision to be nic free.... you CAN do it! don't worry about the concept of forever -- it's too big. take it one day at a time and before you know it you'll be a day, week, month & year free. chewie - 436 days free from kodiak

Yes...I thought about that and like any other addiction it's got to be about breaking the routines which set up the addiction. This morning at school wasn't difficult. I had left my cigs at home tucked away in a drawer but I still went out for coffee at break time and didn't really think about the fact that I didn't have the cigs with me. Got home here 45 minutes ago and made lunch and a cup of tea then decided I could have a cigarette. So, I had one while sitting outside with the tea and a book. What I realized when the cig was nearly finished was that I was more interested in the book than the cigarette. So, next time I read I won't go where I can smoke too. Interesting things to think about. So far today....2 cigarettes.....that's not bad. Will let you know after the third one.....IF there is a third one. Believe me that not being able to smoke indoors really does stop me! ARL

Good morning. Well, today is Day 4 on Chantix for me. I'm following the directions to the T. My cravings are definitely lessening but I'm still having difficulty with those tough trigger times..(a.m. with coffee, after lunch, etc.) also. I'm down to about 8 or 9 for the last 3 days which is great for me. Today starts my double dose with my quit date for Monday morn. I did notice this morning that when I put the coffee on I wasnt dwelling on that first cigarette which is great. I'm trying! I am realizing that most of this is habit.

| Smoked a total of 5 yesterday and...
only really enjoyed ONE....the one after dinner with the coffee. Going to have to think about how much I want a cigarette before I light one up. What is Chantix? ARL
