| What to read when you're weak http://www.copd-international.com/messageboards.htm This is a link to the COPD message boards. I found this very useful while I was quitting. It's hard to read - it's all people with emphysema and serious asthma (sp?) talking about their tests and trips to the hospital. They talk about life on oxygen. Medicines. CAT scans. Lung cancer tests. This is what the future holds for smokers. The most painful ones to read are the posts where they regret that they didn't quit in time - in one post a man talks about a dream he had in which he was able to walk and run around again without running out of breath. It made him cry. There are posts about breathing techniques and how to deal with the terror of not being able to get your breath. When you are thinking, "Screw it - I'll just smoke a little while longer and THEN quit ..." read the COPD message boards. They wish they still had the chance to make a choice. Many openly admit they traded their health for cigarettes and it was a seriously lousy deal. Good luck all! The only person who can save you from this future is YOU - so get to it!

Thank you! I will read those often! I have two friends who are dying of COPD...One is currently in the hospital in very bad shape. The other was in there for awhile but just recently sent home and is in the end stages. Very, very sad and part of the reason I made this decission! Jane

A little over 14 months ago, my Ob-Gyn told me I had the start of COPD. I quit smoking. I've just gone through a scare with pnemonia, followed by a lung infection. I've had a CAT scan and other tests. I'm getting the results of those tests on Thursday. Seems I may have asthma. In the beginning, though, we weren't sure it wasn't something worse. I'm sure glad I quit! Hope you all do too! Shalom!
