| Cold turkey the best way???
I really want to quit smoking! Everytime I do though I feel like I'm dying. Last time I was crying and a nervous wreck. I only lasted 3 months. I have tried the gum,I have tried the patch,I have tried cold turkey.I didnt really feel any relief from the gum or the patch.Just wondering if anyone else found them useful? Yet,I know I need SOME kind of help quitting. Is it true that the nicotine is out of your system after 3 days??? And after that it is just habit? To be honest, the only time I ever quit and it didnt bother me was when I was on PROZAC. As soon as I came off the prozac though I wanted to smoke again. I have heard there is some new drug (cant remember the name,I think it starts with a C) that can really help with quitting. I also think I'm going to ask for some xanax while I'm going through withdrawls, because I get very anxious . I think this forum is a great place for support and advice and wish I'd have found it the last times I quit. Last time exercising really helped me.Another reason I wanted to wait for spring because then I can get out of the house and go for walks and stuff, maybe roller blading. (right now it is FREEZING HERE and no way I can do this) Any tips? |

Hi, littlemiss; Welcome to SR, and to the nicotine forum! IMHO, the best way to quit is whatever way works for you! ![]() There's no prize for suffering the most. Here's some tips from my quit. I hope they help. http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...s-my-quit.html (Tips from my Quit) The only thing different is my stats, which are now One year, two months, three days, 17 minutes and 53 seconds nicotine free. That's 17160 cigarettes not smoked, saving $4,719.13. Life saved: 8 weeks, 3 days, 14 hours, 0 minutes. I smoked for 36 years prior to my quit. It IS possible! ![]() Chantix is the name of the new med. I think that's how it's spelled. There's a post on it on this forum. Be sure to use the daily check in. It's helpful to be held accountable. Keep the quit and post before you puff! ![]() Shalom!

Yes Chantix is the name of the new drug.I have been taking it for 8 weeks.Haven't had a cig in 6 weeks. This drug tricks your brain into thinking there is nicotine in your body.Seems to be working really well for me.

| sure thing... first off, don't worry about the concept of forever... it's too big! deal with quitting one day at a time. we'll deal with tomorrow when we get there. i can guarantee you that you'll never wake up AFTER a dip/smoke free day and say "man... wish i would have had one yesterday". secondly, make a daily decision not to dip/smoke. below is an article that i wrote for KillTheCan.org - it was originally written for dip/chew, but it's relevent for smoking as well... Quitting dip comes down to one thing... a decision to quit. I can't spell it out any simpler than that. Sure, it's much easier for me to say that today now that I've quit than it would have been on day 1 or day 10, but every day that goes by, I believe it more and more. I'm not here to tell you that the decision is easy to make because it's certainly not. There are some days when the decision is downright nearly impossible to make. But it's a decision that needs to be made no a daily basis. There are many things in our lives and in our quits that we have no control over. We can't control the weather, we can't control how people view us, we can't control what happens at the office, we can't control whether we are sick. In our quits, we can't control the withdrawal that we go through, we can't control WHAT symptoms we'll experience nor can we control how long those symptoms persist. To look at it that way doesn't look good. But remember... the decision. You can DECIDE to put a dip in. You can DECIDE to NOT put a dip in. You can DECIDE whether you want to continue to be a slave to the can. You can DECIDE to LIVE your life WITHOUT dip. I've had conversations with other quitters and cavers. I've been asked what makes me different (than someone who's struggling). The answer is simple... I made my decision. I'm not any stronger, I'm not any better and quite frankly I'm not any different. I'm an addict just like all of you... I made my decision. I made my decision this morning just like I have every morning since July 24th. I'll make a decision tomorrow as well. When you're thinking that quitting isn't possible... when you're thinking that everything is out of your control and you NEED your dip... make a decision. You're in a place where people can help you once you're made your decision but we can't make it for you. We're here to help. DECIDE to let us help. DECIDE to not dip today. DECIDE to live life WITHOUT dip or chew. DECIDE to live. This thing is simple -- it's decision time my friend... chewie

Hi Littlemiss, know how hard it can be to quit cold turkey. I play mind games with myself to keep from smoking. When I feel the urge to smoke I say to myself it's just your body asking for nicotine because it's addicted to it. I sort of treat my body like it's a younger brother hooked on something begging you for money for a fix. It's funny but it actually works for me. I try to exercise (squash) as much as possible as well. |
