| help! Struggling!!!
Well, day 14 of my quit was a real doozie. I'm stuggling big time today. I had to give a MAJOR presentation at work today...A career-defining type of presentation...It was big..... For some reason, I started to 'panic' a little this morning...like I needed a cigarette to get my brain into gear...I went to my old house because I knew there was an ashtray full of 1/2 smoked cigarettes (don't get too grossed out...they were mine from before)... I grabbed two of them and smoked them. I did it again after my presentation. All in all, I might have smoked one cigarette today... I'm not happy with myself. I just feel so fat...I've gained 5 pounds already...and so bloated...and like I"m not myself. I might also mention that today I decided to give up my patch...I didn't think I needed it and the cravings are stronger than usual...but I'm not going to put it back on because I"m already 30 hours into the nicotine withdraw (except, of course, for the 'maybe' one cigarette that I smoked earlier today) I'm committed to quitting. I don't know what came over me today. I'm struggling here guys! Help!!!!

(((((OOAO!)))))) What a rough day! We've all had 'em, the only thing to do is get back on the horse again asap. Think about restarting the patch, maybe at a lower dose. If you were on 21 mg, try 14 mg. On my first two recent quit attempts I came off the patch quickly as I seemed to be doing okay. First big stressor that came along, I was smoking again. This most recent quit I used the patch for the suggested time and I'm still smoke-free. Some days I really miss my smokes, especially when life is extra-stressful, but it passes. Try drinking lots of water - that can help with the yucky bloated feeling, and don't worry about the weight gain yet - you can deal with that later. Your health is far more damaged by the smokes than the weight, so just try to cope with one thing at a time. Hang in there!

Thanks for the encouragement Margo! Its just what I needed! I think maybe I will put the patch back on. This is harder than I thought... I'm going to drink a huge glass of water and breathe deeply and try to de-stress. Today was very stressful...but I don't want to use that as an excuse. By the way, the presentation went very well today... So glad thats behind me!!! Thanks again for the support.
