Happy Thanksgiving to you also Paloma. I know for me that holidays will be tough without my DOC(alcohol & sedatives) but I plan on prayer and meditation to get me through. A safe, clean and sober holiday to you! Steve M

You CAN do it!!!!

Please, everyone that can,,
This time of year can be difficult for some people
so if you have the time on Thanksgiving ,
please check in here to SR,, offer support, if you can..
Who knows who will be needing it on that day.

I am spending that day with my inlaws,,
so,,, I might just be one of those that need it..
Hope I am a supporter..

Love ya much,
Becky

I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday. Any good turkey recepies? If my husband does not come back then I will have to try to cook on my own. I usually do all the sides, never the turkey. I want my son to have as normal a holiday as I can provide.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone here at SR also!!!

I agree this can be a difficult time for us addicts/alcoholics. This is a great place to come and share thoughts and support with others. Also I know the local A.A.'s where I am at are having Thanksgiving dinners at the A.A. halls. That is a SAFE and wonderful place to be for Thanksgiving.

(((((((hugs and support)))))) to everyone here.

Paloma great thread and a Happy Thanksgiving to you too sweetie!!!

A very, very happy Thanksgiving to all my new American friends here. In Canada, we have our Thanksgiving at the beginning of October, so my turkey leftovers are long gone...lol. I will, however, be celebrating with you, as I do most years, for three reasons: 1) My father is an American... 2) I truly love your country (and visit as often as I am able--I'll be going there Sunday)... and 3) Hey, twice the turkey! Who can complain about that?

I will be around the site most of Thursday, Friday and the weekend if anyone needs someone to chat with.

That AA dinner was a great suggestion--if I didn't have my husband here with me (also in recovery) I think I would go! I have another suggestion, if anyone is at loose ends this weekend. I volunteer at the local Salvation Army dinner come Christmastime, and I know that they and many other charities also host a Thanksgiving meal (not in my town, unfortunately). They are always looking for help preparing, serving and cleaning up.

It's always a great reminder to me to be truly grateful for what I have, and hey--it's a lot of fun, too. Thanksgiving is probably the best time of all to take part in an event like this. And so many of the people served suffer from the addictions you and I face, as you know. I guess that fact never really struck me as much as it does now.

Anyway, sorry for losing my train of thought, there. I hope you all have a safe, happy, sober and clean Thanksgiving. One thing I will most definitely be giving thanks for is all the wonderful people I have met through this site, and all of the support, kindness and encouragement you've offered me.

Cheers,

GP
