I am not a dr or health professional, but I wonder why your dr laughed when you talked about drinking during pregnancy? In general, I think many health care professionals have little knowledge of alcoholism.

FAS is incurable, but there are treatments for some symptoms. The earlier the diagnosis, the more progress can be made. Depending on the symptoms a child with FAS exhibits, you might need many doctor or specialist visits. My limited knowledge of FAS tells me that the earlier you begin to help the baby, the better the off she will be.

With my first pregnancy I was drinking for the first 6-8 weeks, as I didn't know I was pregnant. I always had irregular periods and was still spotting occasionally. While I was worried about FAS, once I got the PG test result of +, I was able to easily quit. My son will be 14 soon and besides a little impulsiveness, he is perfect!

The other two pregnancies I knew immediately that I was pregnant without even taking a test.

Keep "Not Drinking" and try not to worry.

I understand you're going to stop drinking and try an AA meting; however, I don't understand your doctor laughing at a bottle of wine a day in early pregnancy.

I'm not going to lie..Here in the US they've been showing commercials about being pregnant and addicted on TV. My first reaction/thought was "who would do that?"...Then I caught myself,as an alcoholic male, thinking: "you would,.".. I hope it all works out for you,dear! Take care.
