Annoying thoughts
Day 8 Sober
Pros
- Feeling much better mentally.
- Sleeping better.
- Doing loads of exercise.
- Eating better.
- Planning loads of immediate family activities. Days out.
- Irratability reducing.
Cons
- Mourning nights out with mates and family.
- Tomorrow night is the end of a hard working week, normally a drinking night for sure. Instead I have a late gym class and arranged to take elderly relatives shopping early the next morning. ( planning)
- Thinking even family holidays will suck without a few beers.
- Thinking I could just cut back, not drink during the week, one day at the weekend and holidays.
I know I have made the right decision but this is so hard. Summer nights and holidays especially .

Lists are good....Keeping a journal ....staying close to us. All good. All of this takes time. Everything on your post is similar to what a lot of us feel early on. Hang in there. Keep looking ahead. We can do this!!!!
Day 8 for me too. I hear you; I'm always grateful waking up with no stupid regrets. Rebuilding social habit is important. I too am just starting to try and figure out new friends. The whole world is social....but heavily invested in drinking. They say somewhere around 30 % are teetotalers. Some of those must be fun people! So I'm on a mission to find them!
Quitting for good is the only answer. Take drinking completely off the table as an option, or you will drink again, with the same results.

Hi Mark, congratulations on 8 days!! That's a big accomplishment. It's so great that you're so active - I find that exercising is so necessary in the recovery process.
Re: annoying thoughts... I've certainly been there. But remember - and this is especially true for me - one drink is never just one. Our warped thinking that we can moderate is a product of the disease; all logic would tell you that it's impossible, as I'm sure has been proven again and again. Stay strong!! Your progress has inspired me!!

Congrats!
Yeah... Your con list looks familiar.
Good for you recognizing the wins already!
You'll find your con list will shrink as you discover new ways to relax and enjoy yourself. All the while, your pros list will keep growing!
It's awesome. Honest to God.
Keep going. You got this!
