New good habits

I've just bought a habit app and put things on it to help me stay sober everyday(I think it's a cog native thing). I've put habits to tick at the end of everyday and timer reminders to do them. So far I've put teetotal, pray, be grateful, exercise, eat fruit read the bible. Any other things that could become good habits to keep sober?

Now you've got me thinking about what habits I should adopt.

Good for you! Replacing the bad habits with good is the way to go. Walking is one of my replacements.

Basic things at the end of the day were a great thing for me, usually I'd pass out into bed each night, so instead:

-Brushing my teeth every night before bed
-Setting my clothes out for the next day
-Read a chapter of a book before bedtime

For me it was the little things, it all made a difference to the new life I was creating!!

Keep the house tidy.
Promptly answer post and emails instead of leaving them for two weeks.
Stop whining about small insignificant things - work wilingly at things that need to be done.
Listen to my body and rest when necessary.
Make my bed and air my bedroom every morning.
Pray and give thanks first and last thing every day.
Give up smoking.
Think, think, think, before reacting to anything.
Detach from other peoples' dramas.
Do 15 minutes of yoga every morning.

All fab Janie-spent time with my counsellor tonight and got some great relaxation techniques too. Feeling very positive!

I was reading through the over a year sober success stories on here and someone said it really helped them so I've got it and I can see why it helped them-daily achievable goals-you must replace the feelings with something. Very practical-changing your cog native thought patterns-associating relaxation and escaping with something healthy.

  1. Get plenty of sleep.
  2. Detach from the monkey business of others
  3. Buy myself more flowers
  4. Start an exercise routine again.
  5. Don't get derailed by my feelings. Feel them, but don't feel overwhelmed by them.
  6. Tell those whom I trust that I'm no longer drinking to help reinforce my decision.
  7. Stop working myself to exhaustion at home and at the office, and then use alcohol as a way to "turn off." Now, I do one thing at a time.

It's called "The ways of life app" very simple one. There were loads of different ones when I searched habit app-there might be a better one than that out there

I use the Lift app for this purpose. I've been using Lift since I first got sober. I like checking off the things I completed that day. Gratitude journal entry is one of them.
