First time posting from long time lurker
Welcome Shellshocked!
I lurked for a while also.
You'll find lots of support here!
Don't listen to that false sense of security
which tells you, in a couple days you can
pick up again.
It's a LIAR!

Welcome, Shellshocked, good to have you with us.
That anger against your AV is good, I used to shout at mine, "No no no !"
Don't have to shout so much 42 days in, it's more of a "I told you to keep quiet".
Look forward to your future posts, always reach out if you need help.

JanieJ, this just makes me laugh. Thanks.
Welcome SS. This forum is so helpful.
I was in the same boat as you for a couple of years before I joined. But now that I have, it has completely changed the way I'm approaching my commitment to sobriety.
I'm sorry to hear about your mother. Alcohol seems to have a clever way of tricking us into believing it's not the problem, no matter how much it hurts us or how much we have seen it hurt others.
It sounds like being there for your son as he grows into a young man is very important to you, and that you believe saying no to alcohol for good will ensure that. This is as good a reason as any. I think if you keep your mind focused on that, you'll be able to flick any urge to drink away like a pesky mosquito.
Stay strong and focus on what's good in your life right now. And when in doubt, come here for support. One thing that I learned from joining SR is that I am never alone!

I have battled cancer (aged 37) , heart failure (44 years old...chemo wrecked my heart) and I am not 50 years old. 49 and holding fast. :-) I have been a fitness instructor for years but somehow I turned to alcohol because of my genes. Or that is what I believed.
ALL of you have been amazing and I have a *cat* at my side!!! WHO KNEW??

All of your wonderful welcomes made me tear up. Thank you! Lusher and Conquest, I sure hope this panic over my symptoms will be enough to keep me sober. I can't go back. My mother died from this, you'd think I'd know better. I remember what a horrible time that was in my life. My son will soon be a young adult making his way in the world and I definitely want to be around for that.
What a great group this is.

Not deserving? Excuse me! You are absolutely deserving.
You deserve a wondrous life brimming with opportunity and beauty. You deserve peace and serenity; excitement and jubilation. You deserve the support of everyone here.
Anyone that values their longevity enough to seek the support of a group like this is deserving of it's help. You are no exception to this rule.
This place is greater than the sum of it's parts. You will find no shortage of support here; a lifeline in your downtrodden moments and a proud cohort of cheerleaders for your successes.
It is up to you to accept and embrace the fact that you are worth all of this, and more importantly, worth your recovery!
