Fatigue?

Hi all, I am on day 10 and so happy about that. I had mild physical withdrawal, for the most part, and no cravings yet, but I am struggling with exhaustion. I feel like I am carrying a 50 lb load and all I want to do is sleep or eat. I have been walking most days, but I am unemployed, so it's not because I am doing too much. I would stay in bed all day if I could. I am ready to feel better. Did anyone else feel this weak at first?

yes.
it's good you are walking most days try NOT to stay in bed
I find as I add just a bit more to the routine, things get better. The energy level though is a tough one. I'm day 115 and feeling very very lethargic most days. But just gotta keep powering through them.

Thanks for the advice, jsm273, Jupiters, and soberwolf. I guess it comes with the recovery. I am just tired of being tired. And I have so much to do. I have let a lot of things go over the past few years. . But at least I am sober. :-)

Yeap my first few weeks were all over the place!!

You have to remember that the body can't heal years of drinking and turn back that clock in a few weeks, it's gonna take time for the body to repair and adjust!!

Hang in there!!

Most definitely yes. I always advise, treat yourself the way you would treat someone you actually cared about who was recovering from a long & grave illness. Lots of rest, moderate activity, loving kindness & nothing too intense for as long as you need it.

10 days is great!

Hey congrats on the 10 days Salgal! Day 51 here. I was completely exhausted for at least 40 days. I'm just feeling more energy ever so slowly. I was reading about insomnia that most experienced, but that was far from me. I can at least make it through the work day better now. I still get to bed as early as possible and struggle to get up in morning. My sleep has definitely changed too, no more waking up and tossing and turning. I sleep straight through now.

Thanks, Purpleknight, Jupiters, courage2, and pumpkinny. I was thinking to myself, is there something wrong with me, am I sick? And of course there is...."a long and grave illness" is exactly what it is. I have abused my body with booze for years, decades even. I have to remind myself of that! Thanks for the support.

I think many of us underestimate the strain we put on our minds and bodies all those years - but we do recuperate - give it time Salgal

Naturally, of course, if you're really concerned, see your Dr

Thanks, Dee74. I know I have underestimated it. I need to be patient-just taking it day by day. Funny thing is after I wrote this post earlier today, I have actually had one of my more energetic days, ie, instead of moving like a sloth, I have moved like a turtle. Inch by inch...

I was very lethargic and detached many of the times I quit. Particularly the first 10 to 20 days, awesome job getting to day 10. Hang in there!

Thanks, Thatdeliveryguy. Knowing others went through it makes me feel better. I know it will pass eventually!

The sugar in the alcohol always gave me energy. Your body is still accustomed to the alcohol perhaps.

Good point, aborkie, thanks! I often found alcohol to be stimulating, until drink #10 or so. But being tired is a small price to pay for sobriety.

Be kind to yourself and rest. Your body is healing and regrouping. I took vitamins, ate well, and drank lots of water. I was exhausted for a while. Maybe get a physical exam to ease your mind. But it does pass, thank goodness!

Thanks, happyandfree. I think some b vitamins might help. And more water. I am not used to plain water!

I'm around day 10 and am having more energy every day. Make sure you're hydrated, as in REALLY hydrated. Get some B-Complex and go through the entire bottle in a week. You're probably deficient in all of them.

Thanks, drunkfunk. And congrats on day 10. It's number 11 for me, and I am feeling better today. I really don't like water that much, so I know I should drink more. I used to take b vitamins daily but quit, when cash got tighter. But I need to start again-I think they definitely helped with energy.
