hi,i came across this site when i googled 'my sister is an alchoholic what can i do,i too lie awake at night waiting for that dreaded call,i have tried everything from been understanding to shouting to trying to shame her,but nothong works,she is 48 an i dont believe she will see 50 ,our mum died at 54 an she too had issues with drink,im at my wits end with worry,i brought her to a doctor,had an appointment at a treatment centre for her but she would not go,and only very recently she was assaulted and recieved stitches to her head and still she refuses to stop,and she is still drinking with the female who assaulted her,i feel so helpless ,why does she not see what she is doing to herself,why will she not lisyen,i dont undersyand.

I'm really sorry Daisy...I can only imagine how tough that must be for you.

Sadly for most alcoholics (and I'm one) the desire for change needs to come from within.

You will find a lot of support & understanding tho, both here and in our Friends and Family forum too
