hello people, my old name was burntoutbill, i used to post here awhile back, but because of my inability to obey all the rules i was asked to leave. i am here today to tell everyone that on july third i celebrated one continous year in sobriety. leave it to this alcoholic to pick a leap year with an extra day in it. nothing like keeping it simple huh? anyway, last night was the party at my homegroup, it was great. i really wasn't looking forward to it, but it was explained to me that my celebration isn't about me, it's about the newcomer. about showing the newcomer that it really works. so i came here today t tell anyone and everyone who is seeking recovery from this disease that there is an answer. i'm a very happy person these days, life is still life. it's full of pitfalls and road bumps. but with the help of AA and it's fellowship of people i can get through it! i don't have to drink over it anymore. today i have a choice. the way i did this was to totally surrender to my disease. i took suggestions, listened to others, got a sponsor and worked the steps. it really wasn't that bad. or hard. it was only as hard as i made it. but with the help of a sponsor to show me the way, i made it. now the real work begins. now i am really working hard to lend a hand to other suffering alcoholics and addicts when i can. and i'm really beggining to work on myself and my character defects. one of those being authority. i don't like being told what to do. but i'v learned through AA and my higher power that there is a reason for everything. and that reason is not always for me to know. that is part of acceptance. i've also learned that owning up to my mistakes will help me accept them and myself, and making any ammends where ever possible will help me get past them. so in following step nine..........i apologise to anyone here if my ego and pride offended them. all's i can say is that i'm working on that today and i'm trying to not let them get in my way anymore. change is a hard thing for this alcoholic to swallow, but i'm getting better at it. the only thing i found that i can truly change is me, and as hard as i find it to do, i'm doing it. i'm also realising change can be a good thing. i see that in the happiness i feel today. fr the newcomer, it ain't all fertilizer and smiles. there is plenty in my life that needs adjusting. i hve my pain and sadness too, but its so much easier to feel it knowing that it will pass and happiness is there for me. if i want it!!!! stick with this, if you are here looking for help, for answers, or just being curious, chances are you're in the right place. i totally understand if i'm not allowed to stay here, and i can accept that today. to all the admistrators here, thank you for the help you handed me, it was and still is appreciated. |
