Norco and Fentyal for chronic pain

Hi, my name is Courtneykelly. I was on Norco for 10 years and the Fentynal patch for over 3 years because of chronic pain from my Fibromyalgia. I should point out that I am only 37. For the past 6 months I've been very ill with a stomach condition that no Drs could figure out, so they sent me to the best at UCLA. I finally got a diagnosis, but they said my narcotics were agervating my stomach and suggested that I stop them. I called an Addiction Specialist and he started me on suboxane for two weeks tapering down. It's been 2 days since I've been off that. So I guess I could say I'm clean now. But what do I do for my pain??? I have major muscle pain from my Fibro.

Is there anyone out there that is in my same situation??

I need help for my pain that's non-narcotic.

Thank you !!

Have you tried Cymbalta? I take it for my fibro.

Congrats on getting off the meds. I have (and am) still taking hydrocodone 3x a day for my fibro and I do know that I don't want to be on them forever. There is just a fear of being in pain and not being able to function at work. I'm sure you understand.

Lyrica is another choice for fibro. I didn't like it for me, but it is another option.

Hi Holly,

Do you mind if I ask if you gained any weight on Cymblata? I've never tried that nor Lyrica, because I've heard about large weight gain. I recently loss 45 pounds and I'm scared to gain it back. Otherwise, I really think that one of those meds would be a great alternative.

I would suggest you see your doctor for narcotic free pain relief. Also ask him about meds that can cause weight gain.

Courtney, I am bipolar and have major depression. I have gained about 40 pounds and it bothers me every single day. I'm only 5'2. It makes me sad. I don't know that I can attribute the weight gain to one single thing, or if it is my med cocktail. It doesn't bother me enough that I'm willing to go off my crazy meds though.

Congrats on your weight loss! I hope you feel better very soon!

Hi Holly,

It probably is the meds that made you gain weight I know that I've taken meds that made me gain weight, like Seraquel. That made me gain 30 pounds in a very short time.

Good luck, keep fighting!

Exercise has made a huge difference for me, and I no longer feel much pain from my fibromyalgia. The YMCA has arthritis exercise classes that are great for fibromyalgia as well. I'm not taking any medication for it anymore.

Swimming - or water walking - or gentle aerobics in a warm pool is great. Water should be in the mid to high 80's, minimum, so you don't shiver and tighten your muscles.

I also find that Pilates is great. Stott Pilates instructors are well trained and can modify exercises for you. Just do what you feel comfortable doing, and built up slowly.

I know many people would rather live in pain than change their diet and give up rich food, but YouTube is full of testimonies from people who got major relief from fibromyalgia by switching to a plant-based, low fat diet. Search for MeganElizabeth and Freelee for 2 such testimonies.

I agree with shootingstar.

I've had fibromyalgia for years and the best thing I've found is walking and yoga. The stretching benefits from yoga are amazing.

And, do check with your dr for alternatives. If you can afford it, massages are great and so is soaking in a hot tub.

I made other lifestyle changes too. I was blessed to be able to quite a full-time stressful job and I work part-time now. I also say 'No' much more often than I used to. I know what I can do and what I can't.
