First major craving

Well, I thought I was cruising, thinking less and less about alcohol every day, but felt a very powerful craving at dinner tonight. I'm traveling on business and was at a dinner function when it really hit me out of nowhere. I couldn't even focus because I was so consumed with the thought of wine. However, the good news is I didn't give in! So my second month of sobriety continues...

Congratulations on keeping your cool with the craving!

These things happen for while. I found novel situations, or situations in which i had previously drunk can bring them on. Reminders. The other big one for me was the changing of the seasons

I tried this method when I had cravings in my first few months. It sounds too simple but it always worked for me. You may have to excuse yourself and go to the toilet if you're at a business dinner or function etc. I used to get a glass of water and sit down for 5 minutes sipping it and remembering all the consequences of drinking and drugs. After 5 minutes the urges had passed. Congratulations on resisting the urge. Keep it up.

Natom.

SoberD, congrats for not giving in :) 2 months is great!

I too found myself "cruising" in early sobriety, but would get bad cravings sometimes. Around my 1st months mark I think, I read Allen Carr's "The Easy Way to Stop Drinking". It was truly amazing and can't recommend it enough. It has completely changed the way I view alcohol and drinking. I have about 4 years, and haven't had a single craving since I read that book (I've had to do lots of recovery work though). Please check it out if you haven't already, it's an easy, sometimes funny, eye-opening read that combines AVRT, CBT and NLP (use google if you're unfamiliar with those terms, lol) Good stuff!

ETA: I would think that Allen Carr's method is completely compatible with any recovery programme, AA SMART LifeRing etc :)

Hope this helps!

Sober D. Well done. When I see glass of wine it reminds me of buckets I used to drink.
It would be nice if everyone drunk water at dinner table. :)
