Red face PAWS question

Hi! This is my first post/message. I was googling PAWS and found this site. I am sober 7 months through AA after trying to cut back and to stop on my own. My husband, who is almost a month out of detox, is who told me about PAWS. Wish I had known. I have really been fighting the last week or so not to drink. Don't know why it keeps coming up now after so long (possibly all of the stress I was under peaked about a week ago). And now I find myself wondering if I should try to go back to moderate drinking to see if all the stuff that might be PAWS would go away. Wow...that sounds stupid now that I typed it. But, still, the thought persists...

Please stick around, I'm sure folks will share plenty of reasons to stay sober!

Hi and welcome Judy

I think going back to drinking would be a really short sighted move - it won't help you to cope with any of that stress you mentioned.

I'm not sure what symptoms you're experiencing but if it is paws there are things you can do to try and manage things

this link is a good one:

PAWS | Digital Dharma

If you're stressed maybe a Dr;s visit is not a bad idea anyway? There may be other factors involved as well.

You mentioned AA - do you have a sponsor? I'd definitely talk to them too.
If not, maybe someone at your meetings?

You'll also find a lot of support here - it's great to have you join us

Please don't ruin your seven months sober. The symptoms of PAWS will fade with time. Don't ruin your sobriety for a quick fix. It's not worth it.

to the family!

Just read through what dee posted and read this:

Any use of drugs or alcohol, even in small quantities or for a short time, will effectively eliminate any improvement gained over that time, as it will keep the brain from healing.
Sounds to me that drinking would be exactly what you do not want to do

All the best

Hi Judy! I'm right there with you at 7 months this week. I've been struggling with the urge but not too bad. I still don't feel 100 % but every time I think about drinking I just try to remember those awful withdrawals and it passes.

I've had a total s%#storm of stuff happen to me since I got sober and it has not been easy - I'm fighting hard to hold on to those 7 months and you can too!! I pray for the strength to keep going and if I have to lock myself in the bathroom to not drink I'm gonna do it. I'd rathe suffer through PAWS then head back into Hell.

All the best...we can do this!!!

I hope you decide to keep moving forward with your recovery. Whether it is paws or not, you will feel better if you don't drink.

PAWS = Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome

Another way of saying your brain and body continue to heal long after the initial detoxing stage has passed.

"And now I find myself wondering if I should try to go back to moderate drinking to see if all the stuff that might be PAWS would go away."

It will go away, it's called "getting drunk and slowly destroying the new pathways your neurons are attempting to fix after years/months of drinking ethanol alcohol" which used to be used before surgery to numb the patient!

It's a choice---drink or not drink??

judylovestunes, I hope you stay stopped!

Big hugs & love sent your way!
