Do you hate alcohol?

I was just thinking about this and would like to get other people's perspective. Personally, I don't hate alcohol. It is a symptom of what needs to be fixed in me. If it wasn't alcohol, it would have been some other form of "self medication" (i.e., addiction).

I love alcohol and drugs. They just don't love me. And I'm ok with that.

No I don't, in fact if you want my honest thought about it, I love it. Which scares me.

I have a similar perspective.

Would I think bees were evil or hate bees if I were allergic to them?
Would I think peanuts were evil or hate them if I had a peanut allergy?
Would I hate Springtime and the flowers just because I had hay fever?
No, I would not.
The same goes for how I view alcohol. When alcohol enters my body I have a negative reaction similar to an allergy. Alcohol in and of itself is not to blame. It is just one of those things in life that I should avoid if I want to prevent negative outcomes for myself.

There are people who are able to drink. I have friends who drink "normally." These are people who can walk away from the table and leave a half consumed glass of wine sitting there. My brain never could allow that in fact my brain told me that wasting alcohol was "alcohol abuse." Just because I have a negative reaction to something that should not mean that others should not be able to enjoy it or that it is evil in and of itself

I second that. The hardest part of quitting drinking for me was that i LOVE the taste of beer. I had a daily routine of stopping at a local brewpub/restaurant that is a true "craft-brewing" place. It's not like a regular bar where most people come to just get drunk, they go there to taste the different kinds of beer in small quantities. And socially i had no problem stopping and drinking just one beer. The problem is I would then get home and proceed to go through 4-8 cheap beers every day too. The brewer is right there and his craft is almost like that of a baker or a good chef. Oh if they could somehow make things that taste like that with no alcohol!

Haven't been there for 12 days now or had a beer at home either, and I am surviving.

For an alcoholic I have always been fairly anti alcohol. It turns people into morons.

I did like drinking an awful lot though. I hated it when I quit, now I am indifferent. Not hanging around drinkers helps.

I actually do kind of hate alcohol now. Moreso the cultural attitudes toward it. Sure, a glass of wine might be good for your health, but it's still a poison.

And you can get the same benefit from grape juice. No joke.

It's the oldest drug around, and that will never change. And that's fine. I don't mind that people enjoy tasting wines or brewing beers, provided they're responsible. A lot of culture is centered around alcohol, and it gives flavor to so many countries.

What I hate, is how, at least here in America, it's advertised EVERYWHERE. On billboards even. I wouldn't want my child seeing a billboard saying "Be who you are -- drink xyz brand rum" while seeing an objectified woman wearing little clothes on drinking a glass of said rum. Why is alcohol necessary to "be who you are"? Aren't we perfectly fine with who we are without alcohol? Yes. Why does a woman have to drink rum to be sexy?

Furthermore, these billboards are wayyy more prevalent in poor neighborhoods/ghettos, as are liquor stores. "Poor? Minority? Keep yourself down. Alcohol will make you happy and successful, not outreach programs..."

And domestic violence, rape, and child abuse ABOUND.....

I digress.

I just want a culture that doesn't equate being a fun, interesting, sexy, or complete person with the need to drink or drug.

Nope, that would be entirely misplaced hatred.

I have a love/hate thing going with it.

When it was good, it was great. When it was bad it was horrid.

Hate what I turned into on alcohol. Hate that it steals and ruins lives. Loved the silliness it brought.

It's like thinking about an old friend I can no longer see because they're too far away when I remember the good times. It's like thinking about an ex that was terrible for me when I remember the bad times-I don't even want to go there!

Thumbs up

I loved, love, and still LOVE alcohol--even though I have been sober along time.

I loved EVERYTHING about it, that is why I was an alcoholic, and to this day still have to "Watch Out".

Maybe when I am on my deathbed,I will have one last fling!

Ya know, I never really thought about it before... and thinking about it now, I realize I have no feelings towards it whatsoever. I don't like it, love it, dislike it, hate it or nuthin. I used to love getting drunk, but I don't even have any desire to do that anymore. So, I guess the simpler answer to your question would be...

no.

Nope, I don't hate it...I hate that I let myself abuse it and used it as a way to try and escape, and did some damage along the way.

I do hate alcohol. It is poison. It kills people voluntarily (alcoholics) & involuntarily (drunk drivers)
It destroys families.

Do you love crack or meth? Arsenic?

I agree with Hypo, it makes people morons. Even with just a few drinks...people change.
Just my opinion though. To each his own.

I hate that alcohol can have a hold over people, including me.
I hate that everything seems to be celebrated with a drink..weddings, birthdays, exams, babies, even death.

I often think, can't we celebrate some other way, like a nice walk for example? A shopping trip?

The whole raise a toast thing annoys me.

I cannot bear wine snobs.
At the end of the day it is all rotten fruit whatever it costs.

I hate what alcohol has done to my life and the life of others I love.

So I suppose yes I don't really like drink.
Maybe hate is too stronger word.
I don't get as worked up now as I used to do when I was on my 'alcohol soapbox'.

I'm pretty neutral on it. I don't mind that other people drink it (not stupidly or recklessly, at least around me or innocent people, please), but I don't care to be around it. It's pretty irrelevant to me at this point, and it bores me to be around drinking, especially when people ooh and ahh over their drinks.

I feel the same way, pretty much, about football.
