Walked home smiling and chatting with my friend from my first AA meeting. The guest speaker was there purely for me, I swear. The similarities were remarkable. Got a chip and everyone was so happy for me yet they didn't even know me.

Happy for you, Sazzle! I had a similar experience recently, and hearing someone else's story with so many things in common really makes a difference.

I woke up this morning, starting day 7, and decided I'm going to the Newcomers Group tonight. This will be the first Friday in YEARS I have not gone for after work drinks with colleagues and friends. And I'm not scared!

AA is amazing. It is the only time in my life that I felt I had found a place that I really belonged. It filled a void that I had tried to fill with drugs and alcohol for most of my life.

Go to lots of meeting and do not drink in between. It worked for me
