Unhappy sigh.... i need some help / prob need treatment

i feel bad saying this after i got so many kudos on my 1st aa meeting today & saying i wudnt drink today.

here is how the day unfolded....

after aa i asked a member if i should seek professional help since i also use pills almost every nite (benzos or sleepers). she said i shud prob put off abstinence until i speak to a doctor to ensure i stay safe.

even tho i dont usually take more than 1 or 2 pills per nite i know that i need them..along with alcohol..... to feel ok & not suffer withdrawals.

im in between doctors right now (besides my cancer specialists). who do i call? i hate to just pick a place out of the phone book.

at about 5pm i felt some withdrawals coming & decided 1 beer was necessary. i wanted more soooo bad. but i didnt drink more. that was very hard to do.

can u please tell me how i can find help? thank you so much.

Sparky

I didn't detox in the civilian sector but detoxing can be dangerous. Someone will be along soon who can offer more insight, but if all else fails go to the ER.

Hi sparky I kind of hoped somone would have been around by now but it is getting on in the hours. I think it would be a good start if you could find a detox centre they may be in the phonebook or possibly call information and a hospital should be able to help as well. Have withdrawls started?

thanks for keeping an eye on me zanz!

im doing ok for now. i did have that 1 drink a few hours ago and took something to help me sleep.

just jittery but i plan to keep myself just medicated enough to avoid full on withdrawals until i can speak to a medical professional.

tomorrow ill make a few calls as u suggested. just wish there was a well trusted directory or something available so i dont end up going to a crappy doctor or facility ya know?

again..... thanks. thanks for caring.

Hey Sparky...I still think you are a trooper for going to that meeting....Here's an idea for you. You got a list of phone numbers from that meeting right?...Why not use it and make a few calls....Get some feedback on finding a good doctor.....Don't beat yourself up for having a beer.....I'm happy you stopped at one...I know that isn't easy....Just hang in there....Things are going to get better.

Who was the Dr who prescribed the meds Sparky - that would be my first choice.

Or if you're between Drs - did you leave the old for any reason - maybe you can go back?

If nine of that's is an option, for whatever reason, try and find a Dr... one who knows something about addiction would be great but often just a local Dr could be a good start too.

You don;t want to drag your heels on this, or use it as an excuse to continue to drink...I know from experience you can lose months that way.

You have insurance and by your location you live in a huge city - I'm sure you'll find someone

I'm proud of you....I'm sure a lot of people in that meeting were too....Use those people for help....Lean on them....They will save your life....And enjoy doing it....One day you'll do the same for someone else. You have a good night too.

Sapling gave you some great suggestions to go about..

And dont be afraid to just go to the ER and tell them whats up. I have done it for detoxing and it makes it safe and much easier on the body.. And you can get on the way to living the good stuff.

I think your going to do great..

good morning.... made it thru the nite without any really bad effects except jitters & strange rushes throughout my body & nightmares. did manage about 5 hours of sleep. didnt consume any additional pills or alcohol.

i found a treatment center by searching online. they accept insurance & offer several programs. i will call them this a.m. & see if they will let me come for a consultation (and then i can check out the joint too!)

there is a hospital nearby that has treatment but i saw a psych there once & also worked there briefly doing medical records & was not impressed at all.

have a good day everyone!

Hey Sparky

I just wanted to say well done on going to the meeting - you're in my prayers as you work through how best to detox.

God bless.
