day 32- major panic attack. Eeek!

My boyfriend forgot to leave me the car keys with me and he works in SF (we live just outside of SF) so I had to take the train over to the city to get said keys because I had places to be and because I wanted to make sure I got to a meeting. I had a panic attack on my way to SF. This panic attack was very similar to the panic attacks I had my first 5 or so days off booze. Not entirely sure what caused it, though the last time I was in the city I was drunk out of my mind. Was my body trying to tell me to drink (it was usually these sort of "attacks" that caused me to drink in the past? One of the reasons, anyways) or did I just experience some sort of PTSD episode? Thoughts?

I'm not a Dr, so I can't tell you what happened or why...I'd recommend you see one if you feel concerned about this.

I know it's not uncommon for people to develop panic attacks in early recovery tho...
it's also not uncommon for people to freak out a little on the milestones (30 60, 90 days)

have you read about PAWs?
PAWS | Digital Dharma

I'm glad you got the keys

thanks

Hey guys-

I have been seeing a therapist about this. I resisted psychiatrists until very recently because pills freaked me out (had a bad experience), but I recently came around to the idea so my therapist is checking the list of insurance approved docs I provided her with to see which docs her colleagues know/have heard good things about. Just read about PAWS- very very helpful. Thanks everyone

Yeah, and there's not always a 'logical' reason why panic attacks occur.

Talk to your dr and do some reading because there are lots of good books on how to manage anxiety and panic attacks without medication.

Are you going to AA meetings?
Anxiety attacks are a great topic to discuss at the table.

All the best.

When I first sobered up, if I went back to places where the last time I was there I'd been drunk and acting horrendously, then I started getting panicky and very anxious, too. I'm sorry you're having a hard time. All I can say is that things do get better over time, I am rarely ever anxious now. All the best.
